    1. Re: [DYESS-L] Early Dyess
    2. Hi Faye, Just thought this might help you out a little. Have some documentation for you to check on: SC Archives, Ref. - #Audited Account 2119, pp. 1v-6v, Description: Rev. Audited Acct. of Henry Dyess - For duty as Lieutenant. (this is from Rev. War records in Columbia, SC) Several pages show Henry Dyess/Dyass, copies of the actual documents. Copies from Barnwell SC Will Book 1, page 29, 1787-1791 show Henry Dyess listed as appraiser.on at least two estates. Next John Dyass' Revolutionary War record: SC Archives, AA2120, pp 1w-4w show his service record. Henry Dyess selling land to John Dyess in Barnwell SC (Book A page 117, dated 02-09-1784). Have copies of these pages which show his name and mark. Have copies of a land deed where Daniel Odom sells land to Henry and John Dyess (Barnwell SC Book A page 119, dated 12-12-1782). Another land deed showing Needham Green receiving land from the heirs of John Green, John Dyess and Mary Green along with mother Sabra Green (Barnwell SC, Book D page354). SC Archives show William Dyess' Rev. War records: Audited Acct #2123, pp 1z-4z "For military duty". Copies of those records. Dempsey and Elizabeth Dyess sold land left them by William Dyess in Barnwell Co., SC Book B pages 131 and 132 in 1804. Several documents with various dates from 1804-1832, all in SC. Deed Books. Estate papers of William Dyess (Barnwell Co., SC Loose Estate Papers) show him in SC in 1808. Finally, Census records of 1790 Barnwell Co. SC show William, Violator and John Dias. John apparently was born in Georgetown Co. according to the census. The 1800 Census records show Elizabeth and Henry Dias in Barnwell Co. None listed in 1810 census, but Elizabeth Dias Barnwell (widow of William Dias) was still in SC. The 1830 and 1840 census of Barnwell Co. SC still show Dias/Dyess families. Good luck with your hunt...Linda
