Good Morning Cousins... Since the family reunion (May 1st) life has been running me quickly...<smile> One of our relatives, Edmond L. Dyess (aka as Ted) in Odessa, Texas, is very ill and is dying of cancer... I have been there to take his brother, my dad (Oscar C. Dyess) to visit him. Ted loved for me to tell him about the family reunion and he is encourging me to find out all I can about the DYESS name. I also do contract work for the Federal Government and it just so happened that they have been short handed and I have been working there as well. Now, I'm in Greensboro, NC, and life is slowing down a bit and I think I can get caught up (did I say that???) <grin> at least get some of the genealogy into some sort of order.... That's a try, right???? First of all the family reunion was a great success...... And....please Cousin, put it in your calanders.... FIRST SATURDAY IN MAY EVERY YEAR!!!!! We will have the reunion.... I met wonderful lovely cousins I'd never met before..... I met Pricilla McCormick at the airport and knew her right away!!!! She looks like some of Uncle Jim Dyess' daughters!!! she is a DYESS!!!! Chuck (Charles) Dyess....ahhhhh....he is the computer genius amongst us... He had his notebook computer there and entered data and helped people get their right connections.... A wonderful Success Story had come from this listing and the computer!!!!! there is a cousin (James Dyess) who lives in Fla.... I've been communicating with James for a little while. He found me on one of the rootsweb things...James had NEVER met any of his DYESS cousins...and...he was excited to find me. I have talked to him *live* on the phone...and...we both were excited about that... Because Chuck has put the information on the homepage.... and.... I had posted the information here...James went there...and...James has FAMILY!!! He is connected to us... James and I are trying to work out a place where we can meet while we both are travelling...but...I'm on I/85 here in Greensboro....and....he is going to be on I/95 heading from Fla to NY to see his daughter.... but...we will make it one day.. He is planning on attending the next reunion... Chuck: He is going to try and stop by and see you....<smile> Don Marler.... a DYESS cousin....was almost totally responsible for the success of the reunion. Don is a historian, a very committed person on finding his roots; but, most important, he loves to help the rest of us!!!!! He has researched and written several books.... We had John Dyess from Ark there who was so excited to see so many DYESS people.... They had NEVER seen so many DYESS people.... On the return trip from Odessa, Texas, Daddy and I stopped (only briefly) at the DYESS Air Force Base, Texas.... and...went thru one of the memorials for Colonel DYESS.... My dad was so impressed by this great man!!! Also...Colonel Dyess had written a book : The Dyess Story...... Don Marler, our cousin, has reprinted the book. If you have not read it, I would suggest that you contact Don for a copy.... It's a book that you just can't put down..... Thanks cousins for everything!!!!! We have a great history and a great NAME!!!!! kaite.. (Carolyn DYESS Bales)
