Hello, DICE cousins, (Including you, Bud, :) Bud is right. This is the same family. Hattie McCLANAHAN was a second wife. Because of circumstances beyond his control, James Franklin DIES left his home, wife and children in Colbert County, Alabama, where they lived briefly and then moved to Prentiss Co, MS, and back to Colbert Co, AL. Hattie McCLANAHAN was said to have been working as a waitress in a large hotel in Missouri, maybe St. Louis, when she met James Franklin DICE, who was travelling with the covered wagon minstrel show. The next that was know of her was when she gave birth to the daughter Eva DICE on Mar. 28, 1901. James Franklin DICE had a brother who was in the show with him. The show may have been a medicine show. The wagon, in a picture that I have, has some writing on it, that is only partially showing in the picture. It looks like "MULLON. MURRUW SHOW" or "MOLLAN.MORROW SHOW". They evidently lived in the wagon?? because it looks like household goods, including a bag of potatoes in the back of the wagon. I suppose they could have been selling groceries?? Anyway, I would very much like to know of his death. It is even possible that what I have heard is not the whole story, and he may have married again?? In Louisiana??? If any of you like being involved in a good mystery, Here's your chance!!! It will take a pretty good detective to find the missing ventriloquist!!!! Ihave told you all I know, so you have the clues!!! HELP! Bud, I'm sorry, I thought I had told you of this.
