    3. Hello one and all, Last summer we went to Dyess Arkansas to see what we could find. As it turns out we did not find much. Did take some photos. Here is what we learned. Dyess Arkansas Dyess Arkansas was started in the 1930 by W. R. Dyess who was Relief Administrator for arkansas during the Roosevelt administration. It was called Dyess Colony and was named after him. In the 1960’s the name was changed from Dyess Colony to Dyess Arkansas. Dyess is located in Mississippi County Arkansas in the Mississippi River valley. Local residents say that at one time the town had about 2000 people but now the population is 466. There was a hospital, pool hall, garment factory, bank and drug store which are no longer there. In addition there were grocery stores and filling stations, etc. some of which are still there. There is also a city hall, police station and post office. No Dyesses live there now. Eugene Williams, a local T.V. personality and musican, is a home town boy as is Johnny Cash. The town has a reunion the first Saturday of July each year and Williams and Cash often attend. Does anyone have more info. especially about the man who founded the town? Don C. Marler
