Hello again, Lt. Col. Wm. E. Dyess was captured during WWII and made a prisoner of the Japanese in Bataan. He was in the Bataan Death March. He was the first one to escape from the prison and tell the world about the treatment American prisoners of war received there. Three months later he was killed in a plane crash when the plane he was testing malfunctioned. Dyess Airforce Base in Abilene, Tx. is named after him. His story was published in the 1940's.
