One was Isaac Jackson the other is unknown. Isaacs wife died. Isaacs brother died. Isaac and his brothers wife (Phearby Thompson b. 1849 d. 1915 buried Statenville, GA) decided to combine families. They each had two previous daughter, Cassie b. Feb 1873 m. Moses Oppenheimer, Mary m. Leon Hughs, Anna m. Colie Crosby, and Emma b. ca 1876 m. Rowan(Alan) Deloach, Jr. Together they had three children, John Jessie b. 1884 m. Elizabeth Lindsey, Edith J. (Edie)b. Oct 1887 or 8 m. Warren V. (Buddy) Crosby(they are both buried Hamiliton Co., FL), and Joseph William b. 1886 m. Mattie Treadwell (He is buried Statenville, GA, she is buried Valdosta, GA.) Hi, Don! I am a DICE descendant, my father was son of James Franklin DIES - DYAS - DICE etc. (yes, James Franklin spelled his name all of those ways, and more). James Franklin (J.F., Frank, Jim, etc.) was son of Robert DYAS. I am interested in the DIES book written be son of Martin DIES of Texas. Do you know where that book can be located? Is it a book about his family tree? If so, do you have the book? If you or another one on this list has access to the book, will you please check it to see if Robert DYAS or his father Thomas DYAS (any spelling) is listed? Hello again, Lt. Col. Wm. E. Dyess was captured during WWII and made a prisoner of the Japanese in Bataan. He was in the Bataan Death March. He was the first one to escape from the prison and tell the world about the treatment American prisoners of war received there. Three months later he was killed in a plane crash when the plane he was testing malfunctioned. Dyess Airforce Base in Abilene, Tx. is named after him. His story was published in the 1940's. Greetings!! In East Texas near where I live (near Woodville) is a community known as the Dies Community. It had a post office until the 1940's. The community was named after Martin Dies. Actually there were 2 Martin Dies (father and son) M. Dies, Sr. (1870-1922 - born in Jackson Parish, La.) was a Congressman and lawyer. He got in financial difficulty when he couldn't pay a debt he owed to his friend John Henry Kirby - the timber tycoon. His son, Martin Dies, Jr. was a lawyer and also a U.S. Representative. He won fame, or infamy, as the first Chairman of the House Un-American Activities Committee. He was one of those who saw a communist under every bush and did a lot of harm in hunting them. He is not my hero. There is a state park <Martin Dies Park> named after him; it is located between Woodville and Jasper, Texas. Martin Dies, Jr. wrote a couple of books. His descentants still live in the area. Millard Martin thought the Louisiana Dyesses were related to him but couldn't find the link. He doesn't mention him in his Dyess book nor does Pam Trammell in her Dyess book. Does anyone know of a relationship? Don C. Marler

I kept REALLY hoping to find the one for Hattie McCLANAHAN and JAMES FRANKLIN DYAS, DYCE, DIES, DICE, DYSE, (or any spelling), but haven't found it yet. Gaytha, Hi! Yes, I would like to see the listing on the cd of marriages for the spellings DICE, DIES, DYSE, and DYAS. My grandfather used all of those spellings in his name, and maybe more! My grandfather is said to have married (2nd) to Hattie Jane McClanahan, and we have no idea where! He travelled as a ventriloquist with a road show, so the marriage could have been ANYWHERE, but since he died in Louisiana in 1903, he could have very well married in Louisiana. The marriage would have been between 1897 and 1903. If it is not too much to ask, please do show the list on line. If I can check anything for you in the Springfield, Missouri area, let me know.
