I will be waiting for the final listing to be published. It takes a lot of time (which I realize is precious) to look up something for someone else, and I really do appreciate it. Thank you, Kaite, for posting my message to the list. Thanks to Gaytha (what a pretty name!) who checked her cemetery books for me. (Names fascinate me. My name is Belva Jean (DICE) WALLACE.) Because of circumstances beyond his control, James Franklin DIES left his home, wife and children in Colbert County, Alabama, where they lived briefly and then moved to Prentiss Co, MS, and back to Colbert Co, AL. This is really a great list! I have thanked each of you personally, (I hope I haven't missed anyone), but I also want to publicly thank you. You are a great group!!! You have helped a lot! In an obituary (which I do not have) for Eva DICE, daughter of James Franklin DIES/DIAS/DISE, Eva was said to have been born in Laysville, LA. on Mar. 28, 1901. I now feel (thanks to the good people of the LA list) that it should have read LEESVILLE instead of LAYSVILLE. Leesville is in Vernon Parish, very near Alexandria. In 1901, when Eva DICE was born to James Franklin and Hattie (McCLANAHAN) DISE/DICE, this family was in Leesville. I don't know how long they were there, because James Franklin was travelling with a covered wagon minstrel show. He was a ventriloquist and a fiddler. He was my grandfather. About 1903, give or take a few years, in Louisiana, James Franklin DISE was sitting on the side of his bed and playing his fiddle, when he died (or so I am told). I need some sort of record of his death. Since he travelled, I'm not sure exactly where he died. It was no doubt in Louisiana, probably in or near LEESVILLE, LA. If any of you who live in LA have a book or cd of cemetery records, will you please check for me for James Franklin DICE? He was known to spell his name DIES, DISE, DYAS, and any other combinatioon of letters that sound the same. Do any of you know of newspapers that were published in that area around 1903 ? I wonder if it is possible to find a newspaper obit of his death? I would very much appreciate any help or advice about locating a record of his death. HI... I know this has mentioned briefly before; however, I would like to mention it again.... Don Marler, of Dogwood Press, has reprinted the book on THE DYESS STORY. Dyess The Dyess Air Force Base, Texas was named for William Edwin Dyess If any of you have not read this book, I would certainly recommend it. Several members of my immediate family purchased and read the book and each member was affected by the book. Affected by a sense of pride for the Col DYESS who was so honored to have the Air Base named for him!!!! There are pictures of Col Dyess in the book and other illustrations. No one has asked me to mention this book. However, I have just moved and I have been unpacking and I found my copy and have spent the last hour re-reading parts of the book. That's when I decided I would post this information to the DYESS listing... Here is the lineage of William Edwin Dyess... as best as I can determine... Richard Thomas Dyess, born 20 January 1886 in Rapides Parish, LA; died 18 February 1968. He married 8 June 1915 to Hallie A. Graham. William Edwin Dyess, born 9 August 1916; died 27 December 1943.
