    1. Nassau County, Florida Civil War Pension Records Index
    2. Nassau County, Florida Civil War Pension Records Index File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Lori A. Bragg, lori@solutionset.com. ========= Data extracted from: http://www.dos.state.fl.us/dlis/barm/PensionIntroduction.htm. I tried to pick out the Nassau County relevant records - by county and by some of the obvious last names, such as Braddock, Haddock and Higginbotham. I hope I didn't leave anyone out - my eyes got numb looking at all those pages! You may want to search the pages yourself, as many widows and veterans may have moved and applied in adjoining counties. I don't know if Georgia has anything like this, as Camden County could be important. I'll keep a look out! Following is partial text from the page, explaining how to get copies of these records. "The first Confederate pensions in Florida were authorized in 1885 and granted to veterans the sum of $5.00 per month. The next three decades saw a new Confederate pension bill introduced at nearly every session of the Legislature. Residency requirements were added and adjusted, militia members and widows were declared eligible, various financial qualifications were added and changed, and the amount and method of distribution were changed many times. "The pension application files include both veterans' and widows' applications interfiled, although approved and denied claims are filed separately. The veteran's application generally includes his full name, date and place of birth, unit of service, date and place of enlistment, date and place of discharge, brief description of service and/or wounds, proof of service, place and length of residence in Florida, as well as other miscellaneous documentation. "The widow's application is filed with that of her husband and includes her full name, date and place of marriage, date and place of her husband's death, her place and length of residence in Florida, and proof of her husband's service. Some early applications also include the widows' date and place of birth. Confederate pensions were awarded to residents of Florida regardless of the state in which their service was rendered. "Copies of the files are available from the Florida State Archives for a flat fee of $7.50 per file (veteran and widow are filed together.) Checks should be payable to the Department of State, and mailed to: The Florida State Archives, R. A. Gray Building, Tallahassee, FL 32399-0250. You may call (850) 487-2073 for further information on this or any other collection in the Archives." Also, if a body is claimed later, then he's dug up and moved and another resident gets his place. Will do the best I can, as they also changed the way the records were kept. Also, there are prisoners from other Northeast Florida Prisons intermingled. There will be a listing for the Name of prisoner, name of prison where noted, date of death, prison number and race. There are plot numbers for some but they're all mixed up. These will not be included. Many are hard to read, so I've done the best I can. * Dates of death are all in the 1900's. 1. Levy County, Florida Marriage Index, 1854-1888
    2. Levy County, Florida Marriage Index, 1854-1888 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Thomas Parker, twparker@sprynet.com ===== In an attempt to provide clearer insight into family ties of Levy County settlers, the following list of marriages has been compiled. The gap between the formation of the county, in 1845, and the earliest recorded marriages, in 1854, leaves much to be desired; however, many of the early records have been found in Alachua and Marion Counties. This is especially true of the residents of the Eastern section of Levy County since this part was actually a part of Alachua and/or Marion Counties for many years after Levy County was formed. Names have been copied as nearly as possible as they appear on the marriage licenses. In some cases, names have been recorded differently in the marriage record books. This applies to dates, also. Furthermore, some of the ministers merely signed the licenses and returned them to the courthouse without denoting the actual date of the marriage ceremony. An asterisk (*) has been placed by the date where only the date of the Issuance of the license is indicated. Now, relax and enjoy meeting many of those early settlers who laid the foundation for us to enjoy life in Levy County. written by: Kathryn P. Thus began the Dyess cemetery, a small plot, with mostly Dyess kin, located south of U.S. 90. Vonceil's mother is buried there. Her first husband, Homer Blitch, was related to the Dyess family.(He and Anna had three daughters: Lattice, Virgie and Homie. Anna and second husband, Johnty had two children, Vonceil and Johnty, Jr.. Johnty Sr. is buried in Swift Creek Cemetery over in Union County.) There is also an Olustee Cemetery where the "old timers," are buried. So are Vonceil's first husband Claude Fraser and her only child Barbara Ann (Mrs. Amos Rhoden). ====== The entire story can be found at: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/data/fl+index+24310966328+F ======== Thanks!! kaite....

    2. Glades County, Florida - 1917-18 Civilian Draft Registration (A-L) File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Raymond H. Banks, Rayhbanks@aol.com ====== BIRTH INFORMATION: RESIDENTS OF THIS COUNTY IN 1917-18 AND PERSONS WITH LINKS TO THIS COUNTY The information below was abstracted from by Raymond H. Banks from civilian registration cards completed in 1917-1918. All rights reserved. Some men do not have birth locations listed because they registered on the final draft registration day in 1918 when this information was not recorded. Almost 24 million men registered for the draft -- not always in the county of residence. CAUTION: Middle Eastern and East European national boundaries and country names were quite different than those seen on today's maps. Microfilm copies of the original cards are maintained by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS...the Mormons). Researchers can probably order loaner copies of specific reels from Salt Lake City through requests at local LDS Family History Centers. Payment for mailing costs is required. Catalog subject heading: UNITED STATES -- MILITARY RECORDS -- WORLD WAR I [although these records are not actually military records]. Original cards are kept at the National Archives branch near Atlanta, Georgia. The compiler has not abstracted the registrant's address, the name and address of next of kin, occupation, work address, general physical description and occasionally listed general description of a disability. Please consult the original card to verify all information. ***SPECIAL NOTE*** In 1917-18 county boundaries in Florida were not the same as today. Then about 12 counties did not exist as we know them today. De Soto Co. then contained Charlotte, Glades, Hardee, and Highlands Counties. I am not able to determine which draft registrant lived in which county as we know them today. The names Charlotte, Glades, Hardee, and Highlands will not appear anywhere in the files. They did not exist. On the other hand, I am able to isolate persons from outside the county who were born in or have relatives in a particular community (a) within today's De Soto Co. & (b) within today's Charlotte, Glades, Hardee, and Highlands Counties. Consequently the following contents are found in the files shown: De Soto contains (a) all persons who registered in De Soto/Charlotte/Glades/ Hardee/Highlands Counties in 1917-18 plus (b) persons outside De Soto/ Charlotte/Glades/Hardee/Highlands Counties who listed communities within today's De Soto Co. Charlotte/Glades/Hardee/Highlands contain (a) also all persons who registered in De Soto Co. in 1917-18 plus (b) persons outside De Soto Co. who listed communities within today's Charlotte/Glades/Hardee/Highlands Counties. Consequently, searchers in the De Soto/Charlotte/Glades/Hardee/Highlands Counties files should be aware that the man who registered in "De Soto Co." could have then lived in any of the counties as we know them today and the residence cannot be separated out. *** 1ST COLUMN: NAME 2ND COLUMN: BIRTH DATE 3RD COLUMN: ETHNIC GROUP 4TH COLUMN: BIRTH LOCATION OR OTHER INFO (spelling unreliable) OTHER COLUMNS: LOCATION OF REGISTRATION ======= Dyas, Will 2 Mar 1895 W Venus FL De Soto FL Dyess, Bart 8 Jul 1883 W De Soto FL Dyess, Charley 6 Oct 1880 W De Soto FL Dyess, James Fred 19 Aug 1896 W he & dad b.
