    1. Re: 2nd TRY --- Spenser/Dutton Coat of Arms???

    3. Hi Curt, I found this in the GEN-MED archives--to add to what you have reported. Hugh the Younger was hung, drawn and quartered. What a gruesome way to die! I saw this some time ago on a "The History Channel" or some program of this ilk; thus, my memory is a little shaky. First, the prisoner is hung until almost dead. Then this feet and arms are tied and he is stretched out. Then, I think they cut him and take something out and pull him apart. I tried to find a better, more reliable, description, but could not. Maybe you, or someone else, has a more reliable description. 1. HUGH LE DESPENSER was born 1290, and died 26-Nov-1326 in Hereford, ENG. He married ELEANORE DE CLARE 1306 in Westminster, daughter of GILBERT and JOAN. Notes for HUGH LE DESPENSER: 2nd Lord de Despenser. Both Hugh the Elder and the Younger had fled with the king (Edward II) upon the rebellion of Queen Isabella and Roger Mortimer. Hugh the Elder was sent to help defend Bristol against the usurpers, was captured during its surrender on Oct. 26, 1326, then summarily tried and hanged on Oct. 27, 1326. Hugh the Younger was captured with the king, then tried and hanged and quartered at Hereford on Nov. 24, 1326. Buried in Tewksesbury Abbey.
