Hi Suzie, I am currently trying to find primary records of the Sherborne and Pennsylvania Duttons and am hoping to find them and have the definitive word on these two lineages which are branches of the Duttons of Hatton according to P.H. Lawson. There is a book called "Memorials of the Duttons of Dutton in Cheshire...." which has notes respecting the Sherborne Branch of the family. The lineages in the book do not agree with each other and do not agree with Lawson; thus, my search for primary records. You can buy the book at: http://www.higginsonbooks.com/ for about $50. I think it is a wonderful book as it has historical details and primary data from the Recognizance Rolls and other good stuff (i.e., British Museum Records and court records, letters, etc.) As with any secondary source, there will be mistakes (everyone has them even Spencer Hines!) as no one is absolutely perfect. I would love to see someone publish a comprehensive work on the Dutton family based upon primary sources, but the experts are completely lacking any interest in the Dutton family (probably because we are not important enough in politics or commerce!) Our family was certainly not the 'movers and shakers' in the world of the Brits! Take care, Carole - --------------------------- Suzie Smith wrote: > > Phyllis, > You are correct!
