Hi Phyllis, I just wanted to thank you for this information. It made me feel very guilty--my father cried (real tears) when I joined the Catholic Church. And, now, John gave up so much so that he and his family could worship as they please--so they could be Quakers. Geez!! On my list of questions, I forgot to ask what is a "Yeoman"? My dictionary says, 1) a manservant to a nobleman, 2) an assistant to a sheriff, and 3) a freeholder, below the gentry, who farms his own ground.
