Susie - this file is marvelous. Clearly you've taken a lot of time to enter so much of Cope's material and more. Now I have a further question for all of us on this list. Is there a way we can - by working together - expand the complete descent in a single file adding the pieces each of us may have? EXAMPLE - my line back to Cope's genealogy is something he didn't know about. In his book (p. 72) he lists Nathan P. DUTTON as #378 and says "He was killed by lightning when attending a public sale at Village Green 8 mo 3, 1850. His widow married again but died soon after. No children." In fact, his widow, Sidney LARKIN, gave birth to Frank DUTTON on March 3, 1851 - 7 months after Nathan's death. Frank was then raised by his grandfather Jonathan DUTTON and his uncle William Henry DUTTON. While Cope wrote in 1871, and Frank was 20 years old at the time, Cope didn't get the info correct. Frank was my great-grandfather and I have info on his upbringing, marriage, and descendents that would update and expand this small section of Cope's work. In fact, I have a photo of Frank taken in 1905 at his daughter's wedding at the old DUTTON homestead in Twin Oaks. Susie has already extended Cope's material with her own lines. Others of you may have other new material you could add. If I simply import parts of Susie's FTW file into my own, I'll have this part more complete. But others of us must have other sections. A mind-boggling, but doable project would be to set up a single master file in someone's hands and have each of us submit the new material. The new material should be well documented, of course, and we would probably need some guidelines on that. We'd also need to figure our way through the mechanical steps of merging different pieces of data from FTW and GEDCOM files in ways that won't irresponsibly or accidently overwrite one submission with another. That will take some care and attention. With a lot of work, we could even produce a 21st century printed version of Cope's genealogy to be shared with all DUTTONS (even our cousins descended from John of Massachusetts, those still in England, etc.) This is not something for 1 person to do. This would require a team effort. Is anyone game? Let me know by personal reply, but also post here to the list so we will all have some idea if this idea is worth pursuing.....
