    3. Hi all, I have been reading all the archived mail from the list--since I joined the list in late May, 1998, I have always wondered what people had to say before I joined. I didn't know that it was archived at rootsweb, but I found it and am now reading it. I see now how I am related to Phyliss. My David and her Francis Dutton were brothers and sons of Kingsman Dutton and Anne Routh. I found the following passage in the archives (a recent one from Dick Dutton): I FIND this town of Dutton thrice named in Dooms-day-book, as held then in the Conqueror's time by three persons. One part Odard held immediately of the earl of Chester, as it were in capite : another part was held by William Fitz-Nigell, baron of Halton, of the earl, in like manner: another part did Osberne son of Tezzon, ancestor to the Boydells of Dodleston, hold also of the earl of Chester. First of all, what does <in capite> mean? Second, I do not have a copy of the Doomsday Book. Has anyone ever seen the entries that is talked about? My friend, Sherrie Ellis, has a copy of this book and says that we are not in there!!! An historian whom I have met on the <net>, cannot find it either! So, has anyone seen it??? I sure wish I had a copy of this book! Maybe, I could find it. Carole
