    3. Hi Carole and all, Carole, in this case I believe you are a bit too suspicious. I have been corresponding with Angie back channel since our correspondence was not all of general interest to this List. I believe her to be exactly what she says she is, which is not an experienced genealogist. Her son, Shawn, is a product of her first marriage to Randall Henry Dutton and retains that surname and if you think about it, Shawn "could" (maybe even probably) be a blood relative of Mahala DUTTON while Angie probably could not. That is what she is trying to determine. Why she has not subscribed to the list I can't say - I'll ask her. I was unable to connect Randall Henry back to the main tree but maybe one of you all can help so I share some of her story below. Dick Dutton ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for sending the information it was great to get it, first off let me tell you a little bit about how I got so interested in my son's family history. I was looking for the makers of a cornstarch bag that was used on a quilt that had made it's way into our family a month or so ago, the bags were some kind of cloth sack that had been manufactured by a company called Penick Ford LTD, cedar rapids, Iowa, the Douglas brand was printed on it .. as my research of this sack got more involved, I found out that the original owners of the company were George B. Douglas and Walter Donald Douglas, they started the cornstarch manufacturing plant in 1899, in cedar rapids, Iowa. Water D. Douglas, married a mahala ( Dutton) Douglas in or on may 19th 1884. When I saw her maiden name I almost fliped, it was the same as my son's , and the fact that she was a Titanic survivor was such a cool thing, that's why I was trying to find out if they might be related.. Walter and George's father was the person whom started the Quaker Oats business in 1901, i think was the date, it's the same Quaker Oats that we have today. Walter and Mahala built a mansion on the bluffs overlooking Lake Minnetonka that was said to have been a copy of a french palace, Water retired on Jan 1, 1912 and the couple took off on a three month tour of Europe to find furnishings for their palatial retreat. Mahala and her French maid where on the second life boat, that came off the titanic, she lived in the mansion alongside Lake Minnetoka for the rest of her days as a prominent socialite until her death in 1945, at the age of 81. she is buried at the Oak Hill cemetery, in Cedar rapids, IA. alongside of her husband . I don't know if any of this will be helpful to you, but I thought it was interesting. now as for some of his family, I don't really know very much, but here is what I do know, Randall Henry Dutton in the son of Henry A. Dutton of Dalton Ga, he married Margo Rae Hall, they got a divorce then he remarried a lady named Louise Rogers, they have a daughter Named Pamala (Dutton) Bartley who lives in Dalton also, Randall has a older brother named Raymond L. Dutton that lives in Madison, Wisconsin, the last I heard. Randall's grand father's Name was Cifford Dutton also of Dalton, Ga. , he married a Flora bell Gentry, if I'm not wrong, Randall's father Henry has a younger sister but I only met her once, and I can't remember her name.I do however know that Randall's grandmother on his mother's side, was a Margaret mills of Florida some where around the lakeland area, but that is about it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Carole Malisiak wrote: > > Hi all! > This is all very strange to me!
