I am looking for any info on my great grandfather, Richard Albert DUTTON. I know he was married to a Minnie Bryant and thier only child, my grandmother,Octa Merle DUTTON , was born in Cartervile, Jasper CO.,MO on 17 JUN 1902.Minnie died and Richard later lived in CA, AR, OK. He is listed with another wife and the daughter from his first marriage in McCurtain Co.OK 1910 census. He died c1938 or 39 and is buried in Ashdown,Little River Co., AR. His sister MATTIE DUTTON, married W.H. Pinkerton on 5 AUG 1888 in Jackson Co.,AR She later ran a boarding house near Clarksville, Red River Co.,TX.I have heard there may have been a couple of other sisters. Richard Albert worked around sawmills. Does any DUTTON family out there claim Richard Albert and Mattie? Hope to connect to cousins SOON. Charlotte
Several years ago, probably at the Salt Lake City FHC, I photocopied a page from LDS Film 0165977, near the end of the film. I did not get the title or author. My copy was poor, is barely readable. It does contain the report of James being born in (unreadable church) Philadelphia, married to Lydia Martha Kimler. When their first child was one year old, against the religious faith of his father, James joined the Patriots and fought in the Battle of Brandywine Sept 11, 1977. (After the battle, General Cornwallis made camp on the Dutton farm . . . He remained on the farm and served with the Chester County Militia until 1786 when the family moved to Loudon, Virginia, where the oldest son Joseph married Amy Childreth.. . . After the death of his wife . . . moved to the Ohio county . . . accompanied Joseph and his wife, two other sons and six daughters. . . arr in Marietta Christmas Day 1806 . . . daughter Nancy taught the first school . . Much more data. SECOND REFERENCE: (which I have noted before). Group Sheet from PAULINE LONG, 350 S. There is another version of the story about James Dutton becoming "the Oil King of Ohio", but this one a little more modest. But he killed a bear with a tomahawk when age 14, and grabbed a wolve by the ears and held him while in one of his traps, etc. My copy of the film is not worth copying, but the group sheet could be sent by US postal service. Hi Ron - You've received several other replies to your question... but let me add my two cents worth. I saw a copy of that book -- on microfilm -- that I borrowed from the library in Salt Lake. That would be an inexpensive way for you to see it before you decide to buy it. I really loved it. It gives details on many of the Dutton family stories....about the young Dutton boy who was killed on his wedding day.....about the two duels fought by Dutton relations.....copies of letters both to and from King Henry the Eighth about the dispute over Dutton lands.......copies of wills.....a copy of the actual entry in the Domesday Book about Dutton land.....lists of sources for births/deaths and other matters on record like law suits etc.......a list of the contents of one of the Dutton/Sherbourne (I believe) houses....including how many silver bowls and platters there were (!)...... a good index.....pictures of the elegant Dutton Hall door and arms carved around entryway, a picture of how the great hall at one time had a second floor and room partitions installed and many other interesting items. Having kids in college, a serious lack of discretionary funds kept me from buying the book at the time.....but I made copies of a lot of it from the LDS microfilm. So....I would say to you.....YES.....be sure to access a copy somehow. It's worth the effort. If you're like me.....and enjoy the "rest of the story" beyond all the names and dates......you'll really like this book. Most of this information does not tie in with my DUTTON line but I'd hate to have it go to waste. The following is one of a series of messages giving my findings. Key: Text is summary unless enclosed in "double quotation marks." All spelling, especially of names, is as found. Formatting is for readability, especially lists. I apologize for any error which, although I have worked hard to avoid it, may have crept in. ----- Probate file number, name, date: 6573 Jerusha Dutton 1758 Indexed in Folsom and Rogers, Registers of Probate and Insolvency, "Index to the Probate Records of the County of Middlesex, Massachusetts, First Series, From 1648 to 1871" (Cambridge, MA: 1914) as: Dutton, Jerusha -- Westford -- 1758 -- Guardian -- 6573 Dutton, Jerusha -- Lunenburg -- 1758 -- Guardian -- 6573 Family History Center Microfilm # 397047 Summary: --------------- "6573 Jerusha Dutton 1758 Guardian Bond Lettr. My parents own a Dutton Clock. It is very interesting. I have seen them for sale a couple of times. On Wed, 7 Apr 1999 22:51:09 EDT Rlilley@aol.com writes: >1. My line from this point goes James Dutton, Jr., Stephen Dutton, Stephen Hartwell Dutton, Perrin Smith Dutton, Herbert William Dutton, Derrick Allen Dutton, Kathelyn Mae (Dutton) Martin, me. As you will see from "Probate 21," there were indeed three children for James and Ruth Dutton: Stephen (my ancestor), Abigail, and Susanna. I have Abigail dying at age 18 in 1773; I believe she was an indentured servant with a neighboring family. I can't put my fingers on the story details at the moment. I have no trace of Susanna, with whom her mother was pregnant when James was killed, after these probate files. Darrell Darrell A.
