Carole: I've responded to your referral, Ken, on Elbert Dutton. He did not give you any pertinent information but I'm pretty sure he is from the Jeremiah Dutton line. Thanks. Sue
Hi Ken, I am posting your data to the DUTTON-L list in the hopes that someone will be able to help you out. We have some experts on the Virginia Duttons on the list. carole ______________ mailto:hft96@yahoo.com I am trying to trace my family, and currently, now that I found you, I cannot seem to find my paper work on what I have so far, anyhow am looking for assistance if possible, I am from, Washington State, and as far as I can remember, Elbert Dutton from Virginia, is all I know. Thanks for help. Ken
Hi, I must have missed something. What is it about Elbert Dutton? My grandfather was Elbert Dutton. Can I help in some way? Bessie
Does anyone have information on Wyne Dutton who married Margaret Johnson on July 20, 1846 in Itawamba Co., MS. I thought I have all the Itawamba Co., Duttons in my files, but not this one. Thanks. sonya Mims
Hey! Did you see the Dutton Mariner on "The Learning Channel" tonight, a show about extreme machines? It is the only 'successful' amphibious car and it is built by Tim Dutton in England. He has driven it across the English Channel and he sells it to people who live on islands!! It can go 90 mph on land and 7 knots on water (which is, like fast, for a sail boat on Lake Erie!). Duttons seem to be good at engineering!!! Well, except for me. My VCR still flashes 12:00. But, I'm glad I'm a Dutton! :))) Carole

source: 1788-1881 HISTORY OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, OHIO. H. Z. Williams & Bros. Publishers, 1881. Reprinted 1976 by The Bookmark, Knightstown, Indiana. Since I was spinning my wheels yesterday, I took time to look at page 677, the Dutton Oil Well. This is perhaps a slightly different version, unless this is the only source. James Dutton, William Dutton, John Smithson, and Alden Warren were co-partners in developing this well in October, 1859. They drilled to bedrock. James Dutton said the stream of oil was as thick as his arm. They could fill and 80-gallon barrel in half a day, and sell it for $28. The well late sold for $100,000. But, my Melvin Dutton was not involved in it, so I am still looking for Melvin Duttons.
Good Mom's Day morning: I found this copy of Leycester's Historical Antiquities on the net, if you don't have it, here the url is: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~amcolan/Dutton/leycester.html Makes for interesting reading. I think you and I are related, and I have some questions for you. 1. You sent Maureen ? email on 1/11/99 regarding a Stephen DUTTON. Did she ever respond with information about Stephen's descendants? 2. In responding to Doug Hall's attempt to plot the movement of Duttons, your succinct summary of your lineage helps me tie into yours. Sponsored by the Washington County Historical Society, Marietta, Ohio. LDS FHC film 982265 which is photocopy of book with index in front. A separate index, perhaps more extensive and clearer, was prepared by the Marietta Chapter NSDAR and is available on film 20296. The cost of ordering in Casper was $3.25 each for three weeks. EARLY SETTLEMENTS: There is a considerable history on the "Ohio company" which was meeting in Providence Rhode Island up to March 5, 1787, their subscription of $1 an acre for a total of one million dollars to be paid to the U. S. Treasury. They authorized a survey at the mouth of the Muskingum River on the Ohio River and assembled April 1788 at Sumrill's Ferry on the Youghiogheny River, taking a floatilla down it and the Mongehela to the Ohio and their survey site. List of settlers in 1788, 1788, 1789. DUTTONS:I do not believe any Duttons were in those original settlement lists. However, the index lists 19 Duttons including Hanson, James, Joseph and Amy Job, Smith J., William, Betsey, Elizabeth, John R., L. H., Lizzie, Mary, Nancy, S. J., J. W., Sally, Sarah, and Susan. I have not researched them. The people I was looking at did not have any vital data. There may be supplemental and confirmation data which would enhance your family history. Hello David, Welcome to the DUTTON List You have come to the right place. Below you will find a 6 generation Ahnentafel Report on the ancestors of Lewis Maverick DUTTON who married Lizanna N. Perham. I have no info on Lizanna's parents. Since Lewis is my 5th cousin 3 times removed (5C3R) that means you & I are cousins. Thomas DUTTON Sr. (1619-1687) is our common ancestor. We need to exchange data to establish our exact family relationship. HEY EVERYONE - WE HAVE ANOTHER LIVING COUSIN!! Hi All, Below is latest note I received from Gloria. I haven't got any answers yet to the guestions I asked about the proof of John's father. It sounds like we ("we" being all the Dutton researchers) may have covered the same ground that Gloria did. We'll have to wait until Gloria gets her information sorted out and maybe she will send us a copy of her file. Hopefully she had access to new information. It might light her fire if some of you sent her a quick note expressing our interest. Did you all know you can access the LDS records on the internet now. The address is "www.familysearch.org". Take care, Randy Lilley-Essex,Vt ------------------------ << From: calglo@worldnet.att.net (Calvin D. Wheeler) To: Rlilley@aol.com Dear Randy, I'm sorry I'm so slow on getting these things answered. Family is taking up time as we haven't seen them for 18 months. I also e-mailed a cousin that I worked with in Salt Lake that is on the Dutton line. Your information looks good to me. I looked in the microfilms in Salt Lake of the parishes in England. Dutton, England & Sherborn, England. I found the Dutton families in both places. I looked up some of the records of the county of Gloucestershire and found records there also. I made copies of most of the records but they are packed away in boxes I brought home. I went to Salt Lake with two large boxes of genealogy and came home with 15 so you can see I have a lot. I need to find time to go though it all and enter all of it in the computer with film #'s and names of where the information came from. The LDS Church website is : www.familysearch.org It now also has the IGI on it. So far when you want to download anything it has to be the whole record and some of them can be long. We have e-mailed them to find out what to do to get only the records we want. If we find out will let you know. You must not have gotten my answer to the letter you sent before. We had been having some trouble with our computer but have it all fixed and running great now. If you find out anything more let know and as soon as I go through the box with the Dutton stuff in it I'll be sure to send it along to you. Gloria P.S. You can give my e-mail to the people that are interested in our family. >>
