    1. PIKE COUNTY, ILLINOIS 1850-1860
    2. Edward Dutton
    3. Pike County, Illinois is on the west central side of Illinois bordering on Missouri, northwest of St Louis. There are three Dutton familys on the 1850 census in Pike County, expanding into the 1860 census, with some more immigrants by 1860. The two patriarchs are probably David Dutton born abt 1786 in Massachusetts, and James Dutton born abt 1795 in Maine. David had a wife Mary born abt 1786 in Massachusetts. David and Mary had Silas age 27 and James age 21 with them in 1850. Silus is on the 1860 census with a wife (Caroline Crump m. 4 Aug 1853, IGI sources). James was with Mary 18, Sarah 15, and Lewis 11; his Mary was born in Maine. Lewis is on the 1860 census as a wealthy trader, age 22. Then, in 1860, comes another James Dutton born Maine abt 1830 with wife Ann also born Maine. Three children with illegible names. Five IGI sources in this time period in Pike County. Will give more data later or upon request. Jesse Dutton is age 29 (born abt 1821), born Illinois, with a wife Margaret (Margareta Pope m. 26 Feb 1843). She was age 31 in 1850, born Ohio. They had children Mary age 9 and Sarah age 7 in 1850.

Could you please send info? > >Thanks, >Carole I'll try to clarify, but I'm not sure how best to get the interested parties together, I have already received a reply from the Original 13 list wanting to share information. The Original 13 refers to 13 original settlers of Germantown PA., who came from Germany in 1683 on land given to them by William Penn. My connection is that my mothers side of the family are descended from (at least) three of those 13. The "Original 13" list is not a roots web list nor a Dutton list. It's on something called "ListBot" mailing list which I think operates somewhat like RootsWeb, but is not limited to genealogy but seems to have other more commercial goals. From what I can tell so far, they don't have an easy way to view archives. But they have the same mechanism of subscribing and unsubscribing, like RootsWeb. I'll give the URL below. I guess one way to do it, for those interested is to subscribe, announce who you are and why you are there, and sit back to see if anyone bites. http://www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/cavendish/693/ Ron

    3. Thanks Ed, I think what I have on my hands is a very elusive grandma. Since I started trying to trace down William and Julia Ann Dutton (my #G grandparents), I have found, in my own immediate family records (death certificates, marriage licenses, army records, etc), her referred to as Juliann King, Julia Ann Mathews, Julia Ann Latham, and Juliann Wells (on her gravestone - which turns out to be about 5 miles from where I was born and raised - and I wasn't even aware of that until a couple months ago), as well as Julia Ann Dutton. Ed has also given me evidence that she, after William died, married and became Julia Ann Voorhees and subsequently shows up on the Iowa 1860 census as Juli Ann Vomi. I think, that about all I know for sure is that she finished as Juliann Wells and was a Dutton somewhere in between. If anyone can clarify any of this, please let me know. Thanks. Ron
