    3. Well I might be interested if you could tell me what an IGI is. Is it an English thing or am I not up to speed on genealogical terms? Speaking of your most generous contribution of the Dutton hall pictures and the like, I've found an announcement on one of the rootsweb pages that they will be giving web server space to Sponsors ($24/year) for a small additional fee. Should the fee be truly small and the space indeed large, I will move my web pages there and add your pictures that I got from Phyllis. > -----Original Message----- > From: colin [mailto:colin.dutton@btinternet.com] > Sent: Tuesday, June 23, 1998 11:44 PM > To: DUTTON-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: IGI England > > > Hi to all Duttons, > > I downloaded the entire IGI for Dutton's in England (bit by bit, week by > week) at my local LDS History Centre and have imported it into a MS Excel > spreadsheet (it's enormous). 1. Adam Dutton, Wythe Co. VA
    2. Sue Dutton Rodgers
    3. Phyliss:  I have researched this family quite a bit.  I have: "Big" Adam Dutton was the son of Phillip Derting of Pennsylvania.  It looks like the name Dutton just evolved for this family.  In early census records in Wythe Co they are reported as Dutting, then Duttin, then finally Dutton by about 1850. Adam Dutton was b. 6 Mar 1760 either in Pa or Montgomery Co. Va. and d. 10 Oct 1833 in Wythe Co.  He m. Catherine Steffey b. 15 Jan 1767 in Aden, Lancaster Co, Pa. and d. 5 May 1852 in Wythe Co.  They married 6 Mar 1787, I think in Wythe Co.  I show the following children for them: John b. abt 1788                       Peter  b. Jan 1795 Elizabeth b. abt 1790                  George 16 Jan 1797 Adam Jr. 28 Mar 1791                Mary Catherine 10 Dec 1799 Joseph b. abt 1792                      Magdalena Molly b. 16 Apr 1802 Jacob 5 May 1804 Regina 3 May 1890 and William 23 Feb 1812 I don't find a Maria but I have Mary Catherine m. Samuel Brown 16 Mar 1828 in Lawrence Indiana; Magdalena m. Michael Myers, no more info.  I have much more info on them if you find something relevant.  Looks like several of Adam and Catherine's children went to Indiana and the rest stayed around Wythe Co, Smyth Co, Washington Co., etc.  I will be glad to send you an FTM file if you want it.  Sue Dutton Rodgers

    3. Hi Carol, I do have all of the individuals, (with the possible exception of John 1) mentioned below by W. Charles Barnard, in my files - Sort of! While I have Anne DUTTON m.Sir Thomas MOLYNEUX, my file shows her mother to be Ann TOUCHET. I also have a Joan GOUSHILL who is a descendent of Henry III and is married to Lord Thomas STANLEY and has a daughter Elizabeth married to Richard MOLYNEUX Lord of Sephton. I have three Elizabeth STANLEYs in my files but none married to a DUTTON. Otherwise, all my data agrees with his. The only thing I can guarantee about any of this data is that I have no primary or secondary source documentation to substantiate any of it and have no idea which, if any of it, is correct. 3. New to me....but maybe old stuff to you seasoned Dutton cousins. I refer to the Sep/Oct 1997 issue of Heritage Quest. In book reviews I found: "A leaf from Armyu Life-Background and Experiences of a Civil War Soldier. Compiled by Dorothy Kincheloe Hendrix...Orem, UT This book is based on a collection of the experiences of GROVE H. DUTTON a veteran of the War of the Rebellion. ............ The reality of war and its hardships, agony and death are discussed in letters written home during the war. Materials covered regarding the war begin in Sept 1862 and end in June of 1865. (It's unclear if these letters were written by Grove H. Dutton or not -p.r. ) Also included in this volume are genealogies of the Dutton Family from 1630 to the present, including lineage charts and an extensive bibliography." Has anyone seen this?? Is it anything important? The charts sound interesting. Wonder what they are? Phyllis in HOTlanta

    1. Is MA John on the chart???
    2. Richard A. & Jean C. Dutton
    3. Hi to all the DUTTON researchers - I'm a bit excited. Not a lot - YET - but just MAYBE I've finally noticed something significant. If everyone that got a copy of the chart from Doug Hall (many thanks Doug!) compiled by P.H. Lawson will get it out and follow along (a magnifying glass really helps) and then tell me what you think. I have included below a family history report of 4 generations of data, ending with MA John, that I've had in my file almost from the beginning of my genealogy research - but none of which can I prove. I have a terrible time following some (many) of the lines of descent on the chart but here goes. The whole chart I got consists of 5 seperate sheets. The sheet we are interested in now is the lower right one of the 4 that actually comprise the chart itself - the one that has "Compiled By P. H. Lawson F.S.A." on the bottom. Slightly to the right of center and down 2.5 inches from the top of the sheet is a Sir Ralph DUTTON M.P. d.1646 (note the date of death in my data below) The chart shows Sir Ralph's parents to be William d.1618 and Anne the da. of Sir Ambrose Nicholas (see data below) I can't tell, for sure, from the chart if Thomas d.1581 is the father of William but look at my data below. Now look 3/4 inch below Sir Ralph DUTTON (mentioned above) and you will see another Sir Ralph M.P. It looks to me as if this is merely a continuation of the same man with the line on the chart interrupted by a note that I can't understand. The lower Sir Ralph has a son John. Could he be our MA John immigrant? There are sure an awful lot of similarities to be merely a coincidence. I await everyone's thoughts and opinions. Just a quick note to tell you that The Homesite (http://www.web-ster.com/miked) has gotten the beginning of a work over. It is optimized for Internet Explorer 4.0 but should work fine with other newer browsers. Please send comments and suggestions. I addition to cleaning up old dead links and categorizing the links pages, a new bookstore service (http://www.web-ster.com/miked/store) has been added. Read all about it in the current issue of "The Dunton Times" (http://www.web-ster.com/miked/duntnews.htm). This site is intended as a resource for all of us Dunton and Dutton cousins. Please keep sending me links that you think we can all benefit from, newsletter article submissions (please follow the NEHGS format for genealogical stories - I don't have time to convert, research sources, etc. for submissions), and suggestions for other types of materials that you would like to have access to. 3. Oh Colin......you really know how to get our attention!! What a MARvelous message and story of your day! I was right there along with you.....and my map ....for the whole trip! Pictures at 11 ! (as they say on our TV!!) Can hardly wait for them! Yes, a trip over there is definitely called for. When - to be determined later! I recognized several of those little village names from reading "The Duttons of Dutton..." etc. Our "cousins" spread out into lots of those nearby places didn't they. As I get a feel for distances on this map.....I can see that they weren't very far away from each other after all. It just occurred to me......you live near Liverpool....and Manchester etc..... oh my goodness......your "Beatles accent" doesn't translate to e-mail!! Oh this is fun!! You must sound like one of them......and I hadn't even considered that up untill now! What fun! Luv it! And your wife and kids too!! Terrific! (or do they sound more formal......like the Queen!!) Well, this is sorta off-topic, but I heard that Linda McCartney was buried at St. Martins-in-the-fields. Think I remember that the wife of "young John who was thrown from his horse on his wedding day" was buried first at a church by that name and then moved to a place called Little Gaddesden. Are there more than one St. Martin's......or could it be the same place?? We need a geography lesson here. Phyllis (your nutsy cousin in Atlanta --- but I was born in northern Ohio so I don't have a "sutheren drawl !") P.S. Here's another one for the "dumb question" department! What kind of an accent did John Dutton have -- our ancestor who came with Wm.Penn to Pennsylvania in 1682??? (or the John Dutton who came earlier to Mass.??)
