Hi Howard, I seem to remember that when Google announced their project of bringing books on-line that one of their partners was the New York City Library. Probably the Research Division. If so, that should include their genealogical collection, most of which is now beyond copyright protection. I've noticed that HeritageQuest, which is being pulled from genealogical society subscriptions, has many on-line books imprinted on the cover page as being from that same collection. So I throw this idea out to the list. What if, as some of us suspect [me, anyway], that Ancestry.com put pressure on HeritageQuest to pull back those genealogical society subscriptions in order to drive individual subscriptions back to Ancestry, only to find that Google was recreating that same database and becoming a free genealogical powerhouse? Anybody got a friend at Google? Ask them to sub-index the appropriate books they're copying under a genealogical heading so we can sort them more easily. The control of the Genealogy sites and information is now dispersed beyond recapture and purity,it can never be brought back with accurate lineages again. ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Brady" <brady.j@att.net> To: <dutch-colonies@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 06, 2007 8:42 PM Subject: Re: [DUTCH-COLONIES] NJ early land record abstracts now online atGoogle Hi Howard, I seem to remember that when Google announced their project of bringing books on-line that one of their partners was the New York City Library. Hist. Soc. to put on-line many books in their collection. The WHS library in Madison is outstanding in their genealogy resources, not just of Wisconsin, but all of US. So this may help many of you folks get access to this wonderful resource. Elsie Wilson Elsie H. Wilson 5620 Harris Cir. Fitchburg, WI 53575 (608) 835-6791 ehwilson@charter.net
