    3. Thank you again Howard. > Jermias Janszen who was also known with a surname of (den) Hagenaar. Later the family adopted the name of (van) Westerhout. I did not find a place called "Westerhout" in my modern map of the Netherlands. But 'Hagenaar' would seem to indicate 'from den Haag.' That seems fitting in terms of various other members of this overal group. > We had quite a discussion of this family here in the fall of 1999. The 1999 discussion was excellent. I had been going in circles for several days as I tried to search List archives effectively for 'Jansen' and 'Jeremias.' So this suggestion was greatly helpful. Thanks belatedly to you and others for that too. And thanks again now. Best wishes from Liz J

Back in 1999, Willem found some possibilities: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/dutch-colonies/1999-08/0934048370 I liked the first one -- what I believe would be called a 'farm name.' >But 'Hagenaar' would seem to indicate 'from den Haag.' Yes. As I recall, we didn't pursue trying to find at what date the family moved to The Hague -- or at which generation. Regards, Howard hswain@ix.netcom.com
