Hi Donna, Do you know where the French Burying Ground is located? I live about 2 miles from the New Bridge Landing, and never noticed a cemetery near it. I frequently take my grandchildren there on the way home from church, as the Hackensack River is tidal at that point and they like to look at the mechanism of the swing bridge. They are also interested in Dutch houses. I recently passed both Demaree houses, and it occured to me that it is the same name as Demarest if Demarest is given the proper French pronunciation. It got me to wondering if it is also the same name as mine (or more accurately my ex-husband's), de Mare, just with an accent given to the final "e." I know many French names were changed to sound more Dutch when the families went to Holland, or Anglicized when they came here. Does the book give any history of the Demarest family in France? Despite having been divorced for almost 20 years, the de Mare family still expects me to be the genealogist for them, and when my frmer father-in-law died a couple of years ago I was given everything of genealofgical value for safekeeping. Barbara (the NJ one) PS--it just occurred to me that I should add the de Mare family names to my list. The first two pages have the "Frrench Burying Ground, New Bridge (New Milford,) NJ. Transcriberd in 1902. Pub. 1971 I will sell this for $15 plus $2 postage. I keep running into books. I am not well and trying to get books where people will enjoy and use them. This one is like new. It is too bad, about 20 years ago I gave my hometown library the blue set of books. I did not need both and now I wish I had them because I do not think anyone uses them. Donna ----- Original Message -----
The Demarest Supplement to the second edition does not tell where the cemetery is. Have I sent the list to you? I sent it to several people but do not remember. I sent so many people the Rapalje yesterday and today. I just hope I got the article to everyone.
