Hi to all, Interesting developments with this thread, and it does appear that Mr. Phillips was playing fast and loose with the baptismal records, and adapted some surnames to fit his overview of the family group. I too think it is likely that Geertje Jans Dorlandt was the first wife, and mother of probably Jan, Pieter, Abraham and Isaac. Howard wrote: At the baptism of their son Abraham Lott on 5 Sep 1722 at the New York > Reformed Dutch Church, the sponsors were the paternal grandfather, Abraham Lott, and > his 4th wife, Marytje (who remains unidentified). "The bap. record does not identify Marytje as his wife. Maybe there is evidence of that elsewhere." PJS Comment: Yes, there is evidence elsewhere, for Abraham and wife Marytje baptized at least 2 (if not 3) children at Jamaica: 21 Sep 1718: Hendrick; sp: Abraham Lodt and Cornelia Lodt 10 Sep 1720: Geertje, "daughter of Abraham and Marytie" sp: Pitter Lot and Femmetie Lot 25 Jul 1722: Rem, "son of Abrame and Maritie Lot" sp: Chrystaganus Lupardus and Antie Dorlandt and, other sponsorships (as grandparents) at Jamaica include: 4 Sep 1725: Abram, "son of Abram and Pieternelletie Lot" sp: Abram and Marytie Lot 25 Sep 1726; Abram, "son of Abram Loet and Pieternel Loet" sp: Abram Loet and Marytie Loet. 23 Nov 1728: Geertje, dau of Isaac and Anche Lot; sp Abram and Marytie Lot The last wife Marytje could be a Dorlandt or a Remsen, but that is just a guess based on the naming of son Rem in 1722. When all is said and done, some of the alleged baptismal records appear to be incorrect, but the children were all named in his will, and there was no mention of any wife. He was probably close to age 90 when the will was executed, but only son Abraham had predeceased him: Abstracts of Wills Vol VII 1766-1771 Liber 25, Pages 27-28 Page 320.--In the name of God, Amen. I, ABRAHAM LOTT, of Jamaica, in Queens County, "being in perfect health, but being far advanced in age, and considering that I have but a short time to continue in this transitory life." I leave to my son, Rem Lott, all my horses, wagons, ploughs, and all my carpenter tools; also all my lands, meadows, and messuages in Jamaica or elsewhere; And he is to provide me a comfortable maintainance during my natural life, and he is to pay to the rest of my children £504, as follows: To my daughter Charity, wife of Nicholas Van Aersdalen, £72; To my son Hendrick, £72; To my son Jacob, £72; To my son Isaac, £72; To my three granddaughters [sic], the children of my deceased son Abraham, viz., Abraham, Matije, and Cornelius, £72; To my son John, £72. All the rest of my estate I leave to my children. I make my sons, Peter, John, and Rem, executors. Dated July 21, 1760. Witnesses, Benjamin Hinchman, Robert Hinchman, Benjamin Hinchman, Jr. Proved, September 4, 1766. Regards, Pam Sears p.s. Another error by Mr. Phillips has surfaced, but easily identified as such. In his footnote on page 18 (cited by Phyllis), he mentions that Pieter Lott, the son of Hendrick Pieters Lott, had a sister Dorothy, who married William Remsen, named in her father's unrecorded will dated 20 Apr 1712 and proved 16 Sep 1728 [WNYHS 11:67]. Indeed he was mentioned in that will, but there was a correction whereby "William Remsen" was changed to "Rem Remsen" [WNYHS Vol. 17, Corrections Vol. 2, p 373].
