    3. Hi Phyllis, Thank you for the instructions on how to make the £ sign. The is really cool! I want to share with you how to make this sign £ for the English and early New World currency pound sign. I think you will enjoy using this. Some years ago, Charles M. Cook, a fellow Hageman, Hegeman genealogist, shared with me how to make the English Pound Sign using the Numeric Key pad to the right of the key board. To do so hold down the Alt key beside the space bar and type 0163 at the same time and you will get £. Can someone tell me the answer to this? In 237.17.5 - the 237 would obviously be (pounds) £237, but does the 17, then, stand for shillings and 5 for farthings? 3. How do you do this? I frequently need the pound symbol and don't know how to do this without actually going into Character Map. 3. Don't forget that in colonial America (and in independent America until almost the Civil War) the British units of value -- pounds, shillings, and pence -- were not the same as in Britain, and even varied from colony to colony and state to state. Hugh MacDougall, Cooperstown, NY

    3. On my keypad, the sign for pounds is Alt 156. Num lock must be on to make it happen. -----Original Message----- From: dutch-colonies-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:dutch-colonies-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Leslie B.
