    3. The Nieuwe Kerk is NOT Lutheran. It is Reformed. It is where Kiliaen van Rensselaer's funeral was conducted. At that time there were two Reformed sancuaries in Amsterdam, called by the practical Dutch the old church (Oude Kerk) and the new church (Niewe Kerk). I can't remember ever having seen the Lutheran church of that time called anything other than the Lutheran church (Luderse Kerk). ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pamela J. 3. David I don't mean to be argumentative, but something doesn't seem right here. May we have the film number and name of the repository where this film is held? The description in English, or the translation of the notes seems misleading. But this description is straightforward: > Here is the description of the record > Kerkelijke registers, 1590-1865 > Authors Evangelisch Lutherse Kerk. Nieuwe Kerk (Amsterdam, > Noord-Holland) (Main Author) It appears the Evangelical Lutheran Church is the "author" of the microfilm _copies_ of the Nieuwe Kerk parish records. From the description of this film, it sounds as if it must be a compilation of records from the Nieuwe Kerk (the main author from which the records were extracted) over a long period of time. With friendly regards, Liz J

    3. My apologies to David. I googled "Lutheran Church Amsterdam Holland" and found that there was indeed a new Lutheran Church erected in the 17th century, called of course "de Nieuwe Luterse Kerk." ----- Original Message ----- From: "E Johnson" <iris.gates@gmail.com> To: <dutch-colonies@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 09, 2007 6:55 PM Subject: Re: [DUTCH-COLONIES] Fredrick Lubbertszen's two wives > David > > I don't mean to be argumentative, but something doesn't seem right here. > > May we have the film number and name of the repository where this film is > held? > > The description in English, or the translation of the notes seems > misleading. > > But this description is straightforward: > >> Here is the description of the record >> Kerkelijke registers, 1590-1865 >> Authors Evangelisch Lutherse Kerk.
