Dear Dorothy, et al, Thank you for your contributions given below. I have found at least one other researcher on RootsWeb who has reached the very same conclusions, so I cannot claim "sole" credit, but safety in numbers (more than one!). See: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=tagull&id=I17230 It appears that both Hendrick Lott and his brother Peter Lott removed to Trenton, NJ where Peter Lott (apparently married, but without children), left a will naming his brothers Hendrick and Mourice, among others. Calendar of New Jersey Wills, Vol. III, 1750-1760 Will abstract: "1755, Feb. 27. Lott, Peter, of Trenton, Hunterdon Co., yeoman; will of. Wife, Hannah. Sisters - Antie and Maria. Brothers - Hendrick and Mourice Lott. Nephews - Peter (son of Hendrick Lott) and Peter (son of Jacob and Catrina Rappleye). Real and personal estate. Executors - the above named two brothers, Hendrick and Mourice, and Timothy Smith. Witnesses - Daniel Scudder, Samuel Hand, Amos Scudder. Proved May 6, 1755. Lib. 8, p. 164. 1755, May 5. Inventory, 237.17.5 [pounds], incl. his Libra, horse saddle and bridle, 17.8 [pounds]; a negro woman and negro girl, 60 [pounds]; a servant man's time, 3 [pounds]; made by Garrett Johnson and Benjamin Moore. 1759, May 26. Account by the Executors. Regards, Pam > Dear Pam, In your definitive summary you said, "Going out on the proverbial limb, I think it is quite likely that Sarah Covert (daughter of Mauritz Teunis Covert and Antje Fonteyn, and widow of Pieter Lott), married as her second husband to Abraham Polhemus (as his second wife), the son of Theodorus Polhemus and Aertje Teunis Bogaert and widower of Geertruy Remsen." > > Remember that Phyllis Miller gave us the 6 children of Sarah Covert's first marriage to Pieter Lott: > > Hendrick b 1716 (for his father?) > Mourice b 1718 (for her father?) > Cattrina b 1720 (for his mother?) > Antje or Agnietje b 1721 (Was that Maurice Covert's wife's name??) > Maria 1723 > Pieter b 1725 > > I looked at later baptismal records of the Dutch Reformed Church in Jamaica, Long Island. Unfortunately the recording clerk followed the English custom of listing married women by their husband's surname. > > On 17 Nov 1746 Hendrick Lot and his wife Artyi Lot had their daughter Sara baptized. The sponsors were "Abraham Polhemus and Sara Polhemus". In the same church on 10 Feb 1751 "Hendreck Lot and Artyei Lot" had their son, Hendrick, baptized. There were no witnesses' names recorded. > > It looks to me that Sarah (Covert) Lott Polhemus -- along with her second husband -- was standing as godparent to her namesake granddaughter, the child of Sarah's eldest son, Hendrick, born in 1716. > > Another fact to confirm your logic!
