Hello, I'm a newbie to this list. I'm trying to find information on my ancestor, Jan Dirksz VanArnhem, who was born 1640 in Arnhem, Gelderland, the Netherlands. According to the LDS Ancestral File, he was married to Sarah Teunis 28 June 1664. They had eight children, all born in the Netherlands. Now that I've "jumped the pond" can anyone tell me where I might find birth and marriage records in the Netherlands for this family? Jan's descendants settled in New Amsterdam New York, and also Vermont, where five VanArnhems were members of Ethan Allen's Green Mountain Boys. They were from Pownal, Bennington co. Vermont.
