Need joint will of Abraham Isaacsz Verplanck and Maria Vigne. Abraham Isaacsz Verplanck married Maria Ghislain Vigne, d/o Ghislain Vigne and Adrienne Cuvilje. They had nine known children. Ethel, In what court was the will probated? What you quoted just says "the Court." If it is New York I am going there tomorrow, but if memory serves me right it would have been in Albany. I have to probate a will in New York County, so will stay and research the rest of the day (the probate records are one floor beneath the probate office). As these are also my direct ancestors, I would love to get the will. Barbara ETHELKK@aol.com wrote: Need joint will of Abraham Isaacsz Verplanck and Maria Vigne. Hi Ethel, From: <ETHELKK@aol.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 06, 2007 8:18 AM Subject: [DUTCH-COLONIES] Abraham Isaacsz Verplanck - Joint will dated 9 Aug1670 > Need joint will of Abraham Isaacsz Verplanck and Maria Vigne. > > Abraham Isaacsz Verplanck married Maria Ghislain Vigne, d/o Ghislain Vigne > and Adrienne Cuvilje. [RNA > Vol.6:339] This appears to me to be the Dutch type of joint testamentary deposition. These were recorded in the register or notebook of the notary or provincial secretary. I do not believe the notebook of Dirck van Schelluyne has survived, so I think you will be out of luck. As I would expect, this instrument does not seem to have been copied into the will libers, as Peter mentioned. Nor does it appear to be among the unrecorded wills that have survived. For more details on this type of will, see the intro to Fernow's Calendar of Wills. I assume that this probate was occasioned by the death of Maria, because on p. 214 of CEM under the date of Aug. 11, 1691, we see: "Petition. Jacobus Kip, for letters of administration on the estate of Abraham Ver Plank, late of New York, deceased." The full text of this petition is on p. 226 of Vol. XXXVII of O'Callaghan's numbering of the Colonial Mss; this one being during the time of Govs. Sloughter and Ingoldesby. Since Abraham Ver Planck lived in Smith's Valley in 1665 (see RNA V:225) I did not look outside the New York (City) area for the will you ask about. Regards, Howard hswain@ix.netcom.com
