    1. [DUTCH-COLONIES] Swearingen/VanSweringen Reunion - June 23, 2007
    2. David Roberts
    3. This is a slightly edited e-mail which appeared on the MDSTMARY list; the list for St. Mary's County, Maryland. Anyone interested in the Van Sweringen family might wish to take note of this reunion. Also, I attended a lecture at Historic St. Mary's City last week. One of the sites uncovered and later reconstructed was an inn / "hotel" operated at St. Mary's City, then Maryland's capital, by Garret Van Sweringen, a Dutch immigrant from New Netherland to Maryland. One of the points made by the archaeologist giving the lecture was that Van Sweringen's buildings were constructed in a Dutch rather than English style & his buildings more resembled buildings of the period found in New Jersey & New York than other English-style buildings in Tidewater Virginia or Maryland.
