Seversmith's proof “and it has been said” and Fulkerson added sick humor to the story by calling it SOCCER. O'Callaghan begins with "Tradition says ..." I will add this to my comments. Thanks Elizabeth. Maybe someone will find a fourth reference for this 'story'. Seversmith wrote a family story beginning “and it has been said” without documentation or proof. “However, high feeling existed between the Dutch and the Indians; and it has been said of Adrienne Cuvellier that when one of her sons-in-law returned from the massacre of the Pavonia Indians in February 1643, with thirty prisoners and also heads of several of the defunct enemy, she, "forgetful of those finer feelings that do honor to her sex, amused herself in kicking about the heads of the dead men which had been brought in as bloody trophies of the midnight slaughter". This unproven story by Seversmith was repeated with embellishments in The Vigne Family by Fulkerson [on line] under the heading SOCCER. “During that bloody 1643 war with the Indians, a group of soldiers paraded through New Amsterdam's streets after an attack on a Canarsie village. The soldiers had beheaded some of the fallen Indians and carried the heads on long poles. As they paraded past Ariantje, one of the heads fell and landed at her feet. With a burst of enthusiasm she gave it her best kick and off it flew, to the dismay of many in the crowd who blamed her family for the war and also looked down upon her savage behavior.” O'Callaghan wrote "Tradition says that Guleyn Vigne's wife, Ariaentje Cuvilje... and then gives the story as told by Seversmith. *Ariaentje Cuvilje (Adrienne Cuvellier), Matriarch of New Amsterdam” by Herbert F.
