    1. [DUTCH-COLONIES] Jan Pouwelse.... a Van der Beek?

    3. I am trying to identify the witnesses at the baptisms of the children of Aeltje Schaers and John Staff, in particularly the following from New York DRC: 1714 Sep 03; John Staff, Aaltje Schars; Elizabeth; Jan Pouwelse, Aaltje Van Dyk I am not a Van der Beek researcher so all I have on them is an article by John Totten from NYGBR from July and Oct 1933! At that time, he listed an unknown child for Poulus Pouluse Van der Beek and Sara Schouten. No name or gender was given in the Flatbush record for the baptism of this child. A quick survey of online sources found nothing that seemed to indicate that this child had been identified in recent years. Does anyone who has actively researched the family know if this child has been identified and/or if the witness Jan Pouwelse in the baptism given above might be that child? Aaltje Van Dyk is probably Aaltje Kermer, the wife of Franz Van Dyk. Franz and his wife were the witnesses for the earlier baptism of Aaltje's daughter, Janeetje, whose father was Aaltje's first husband, Benjamin Oldes. I haven't determined how, if at all, they relate to Aaltje. Thank you for any clues, views or boos. Renee L. Dauven
