Richard, I've got yet a third Harmannus as the best probability, according to Lorine some years back. He was bp. 23 Feb 1777. Lorine got the name, I believe, from Pearson, and thought he was the best choice because his parents were Antonie Van Slyke and Claara. Lorine didn't give me their dates, or this Claara's last name, and I admit I haven't gone thru your web site or the new Van Slyke book, to check out any of this. Lorine based her guess on this guy's mother's name, and the possibility that Neeltje, or Harmannus, named the baby following the naming rules. Of course, that all depends on whether the pregnancy was consensual or not. Who knows whether she'd have done that if he'd raped her. This Harmanus married Anetje (Nancy) Haverly 28 Oct, 1798, between the birth of Neetlje's baby and her baptism. So, supposing Neeltje wanted the baby and thought naming her after the grandmother would influence Harmannus to marry her, she was wrong. I'd be interested in your take on this Harmannus and the reasoning. I have them all on my website at www.angelfire.com/ga4/myhayes_family/. Which Harmanus Van Slyke fathered Clara? I have 2 possibilities. One is a Harmanus Van Slyke who was born on 16 Dec 1769. The other was born on 10 Dec 1775.
