Richard, So, given that Hamannus Anthony Van Slyke and Anatje Haverly named their children following the naming rules, does it make sense to you that this Harmannus Van Slyke is the likely father of Neeltje Schermerhorn's Claara Van Skyke? I'll never know the circumstances of this Claara's birth, but I'd like to think that at least I have the correct father for her. Interestingly, Elizabeth and Evert Schermerhorn, Neeltje's sister and brother-in-law, the sponsors, also named a child Clarasa, b 1815. This is the form of the name Neeltje used in her New Testament. I wonder if they named her after Neeltje's baby? And if that's an indication that she was dead by then? I know people named children in their own family after those who'd already died, but I don't know about naming after other children in the same generation who'd died. The Clarasa b. 1815 would have been a first cousin to Clarasa b. 1798, and in the middle of the 8 children born to Neeltje and her husband Henrick Bastiaanse. Clarasa or Claara isn't a name I can find among those I've entered otherwise in either side of the family, which is what makes me curious about this Clarasa. I had a marriage between Harmanus Adam Van Slyke and Annatje Haverly in my file. I have corrected that. I have 3 children for Harmanus Anthony Van Slyke and Annatje Haverly. They were Anthony, bp. 22 Jun 1800, John Haverly, bp. 20 Jan 1809 and Clarissa, bp. 27 Sep 1810. If Annatje father was named John, this all makes sense. All 3 children were named for grandparents.
