    1. [DUTCH-COLONIES] GETTON and BILLIEU --Staten Island and beyond
    2. E Johnson
    3. I have a Lewis GETTON who died abound 1744 at Middletown, Delaware. I think he must be a son of the Lewis GETTON of Staten Island, constable of the West Division of Staten Island as of April 1699. He may be the "Seton, Lewes" who is age 24 in the Staten Island census of 1706/1709 --page 5-30. His daughter Jane (Jeanne, etc) JETTON (Geton), also appears in the Staten Island census of 1706/1709 a "girl" --page 5-2. She is probably quite a little girl at this time, since her father was only 24. This Jane (Jeanne, etc) GETTON was married, unknown date before 1732, to ___ BELLOW. Will abstract of her father from New Castle County wills mentions Jane with her married surname: "Lewis Goton/Geton. Yeoman. St. George's Hd. Feb 18, 1732. April 12, 1748. G.113. Sons Lewis and Peter Geton; dau. Jean Bellow; dau. Mary Vandegrift; dau. Sary Jeton." I think Jane JETTON's husband was very likely a member of the BILLIEU family of Staten Island, NJ, and Philadelphia and Bucks Counties, Pennsylvania. Can anyone help identify who was the husband of Jean/Jane, daughter of Louis Geton II?? Thanks very much, Liz J

    3. Hi all, Some of you may remember Willem's very useful site with sections on Dutch history, genealogy, language, etc. It has a new URL: http://rabbel.nl/ Click on the CarPark link for the above topics and on the WareHouse link for maps and old Dutch handwriting. Right on the home page there is a very good Dutch to English word translator. Rather than try to list all the many useful pages, I'll just let you all explore them yourself. 3. Hi Ethel, I, also, cannot see a reference that might apply. You might also like to read his chapter on her in his Colonial Families of Long Island ... See here at the end: http://www.newyorkfamilyhistory.org/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=67 This work by Seversmith is available on HeritageQuest online. He recounts the same head kicking incident in that chapter and, again, I cannot see what his source is unless it is one of the several secondary family history books he mentions at the end on p. 862. (I did not check the later additions pages the Macy article mentions.) 1. Re: [DUTCH-COLONIES] Acquackanonk Patentees
    2. First, a big thank you to all who answered my request for the names of the Acquackanonk Patentees. This list is still the best of the best. I now have the names of the fourteen patentees and I filled in some blanks on my Doremus ancestor using both Nelson books, 1901 and 1920 plus information you generously shared with me. The reason for my original request. I am trying to trace a piece of property owned by my ancestor Cornelis Doremus, I began with the Garret Mountain Purchase dated 27 Nov 1711. The grantees were Frans Post, Jan Sip, Harmanus Gerritse, Thomas Jurianse, Christopher Steenmets, Cornelis Doremus, Peter Poulusse and Hessel Pieterse. It said the eight owners, were owners either by descent or purchase from the original Acquackanonk patentees. [Nelson 1901:330]. Since Cornelis Doremus was an "owner either by descent or purchase from the original patentees" I checked the Acquackaknonk Patent for his name. Cornelis Doremus is not listed as one of the original patentees of the Acq. Patent [Nelson 1901:63]. I could not find a deed where Cornelis Doremus purchased his property from one of the original patentees, but I found him in "Receipts for the Quit-Rents" [Nelson 1901:78,79] beginning 10 October 1707 to 17 April 1713. Cornelis Doremus died leaving a will dated 1714/1715 mentioning his property "aquecanund". The next quit-rent dated 20 May 1719 names his son Hendrik Doremus. I'm still working on the dates. Between the signing of the Indian deed dated 28 March 1679 and the signing of the Acquackanonk Patent on 16 March 1685, some of the patentees took possession of their lands. Thanks again, Ethel ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. Pam, Thanks for the info on these Lott families. Sharon, CT history says Sackett helped settle German Palatine refugees and I kind of thought Baltus may be one of them. Baltus is Dutch for Balthsar, I have been told. The history also states Baltus was Dutch so I had been working on the assumption he was dutch. His daughter married into an established English family though. Most of my Dutch ancestors didn't marry out of dutch community till later on as they moved west it seems to me.
