Hi Donna, Do you know where the French Burying Ground is located? I live about 2 miles from the New Bridge Landing, and never noticed a cemetery near it. I frequently take my grandchildren there on the way home from church, as the Hackensack River is tidal at that point and they like to look at the mechanism of the swing bridge. They are also interested in Dutch houses. I recently passed both Demaree houses, and it occured to me that it is the same name as Demarest if Demarest is given the proper French pronunciation. It got me to wondering if it is also the same name as mine (or more accurately my ex-husband's), de Mare, just with an accent given to the final "e." I know many French names were changed to sound more Dutch when the families went to Holland, or Anglicized when they came here. Does the book give any history of the Demarest family in France? Despite having been divorced for almost 20 years, the de Mare family still expects me to be the genealogist for them, and when my frmer father-in-law died a couple of years ago I was given everything of genealofgical value for safekeeping. Barbara (the NJ one) PS--it just occurred to me that I should add the de Mare family names to my list. Dutch (and Huguenot) ancestors: Abeel, Arents, Bancker, Barents, Baudartius, Bedlow, Beekman, Bradt, Cornelisse, Cuvilve, Damiens, Daniels, de Boogh, de Draijere, de Graaf, de Hooges, de Lanoy, de Peyster, d'Honneur, du Bois, Florisz, Hendriks, Het, Horsner, Huygens, Jans, Janse, Jacobze, Karneels, Keteltas, Kiersen, Lansing, Leusseler, Lubberts, Macque, Martsens, Maynard, Meyer, Meyrinck, Nazareth, Ostrander, Pels, Pietersz, Polhemus, Roosevelt, Rutgers, Samuels, Sauzeau, Scheerburch, Schepmoes, Schuyler, Snyder, Stunning, Suydam, Symons, Tjercks, Toll, Trijon, Tryon, Van Benschoten, Van Breestede, Van Capelle, Van der Werven, Van Elburch, van Eps, Van Heyningen, Van Rosenvelt, Van Rotmerz, Van Schoenderwoert, Van Slichtenhorst, van Wagenen, van Wagner, van Wenckum, Van Wyck, Ver Planck, Vigne, Wiltsie Collateral Families of Particular Interest: Deyo, Freer, Livingston, Roosa, Van Anstyne, Van Rennssalaer, Palatine ancestors: Acker, Eacker, Finck, Hans, Herkimer, Loucks, Petrie, Starring, Schnell, Tonges, Barbara L. de Mare, Esq. I just looked through my book "Dutch Houses" by Rosalie Fellows Baily and there are two pages on Vreeland, with Michael listed. I am planning to sell this book but I looked on the computer and it is valued at $299.00. Many of my ancestors are in this book. Ihave barely used it. I thought it was only pictures of houses until today. It is not hard bound, but a type of plasticed paper back. I will think about sending you the articles on Vreelandd. Then i will sell. Donna OH DONNA- Is this the book that has the b/w pix of the old Brooklyn houses? If it is, do you have access to a scanner or digital camera? There are about 6 houses with the descriptions and brief bios that have Lott families that lived in them. I would LOVE to get my hands on those again. When I found them years ago, I didn't know enough to document my sources-sorry, about that Dorothy:<))- and I just got poor quality Xerox copies of them. So. . .I'm on my knees begging for these copies IF they do indeed have homes that Lott families lived in. It didn't have an All name index, so I went thru it page by page and failed to copy a couple of them, because I didn't know they were connected to the Lotts. Woe is me!! In most organizations you have to prove birth deaath and marriage for all generations from you back to the original. You can use published books if you find them. They usually do not accept family books put togetrher unless everything is documented. Did I sen the part on Vreeland? If not I will send it to you.
