RE: NNC I am a member of NEHGS, but had not noticed the NNC was posted on there. I want to post info on our Dutch Cousins gathering in Kentucky coming up this Fall, and our bus tour to New York. See you in Harrodsburg, KY, Friday Sept 30 and Saturday Oct 1, 2011, for the FOURTH Dutch Cousins Gathering! Plan to stay Thursday through Monday if you can. We will have a business meeting, election of new officers, and a speaker on Thursday evening Sept 29. Exhibits, excursion, dinner and speaker Friday evening. We will be at the Extension center all day Saturday with catered meals (yum -remember how good they were last year) and on Sunday Oct 2 a brunch followed by worship at Old Mud and some sort of Veterans Memorial. Following that, we will leave on a sentimental and educational bus journey to Dutch New York. We are almost ready to reveal the exciting plans for this incredible trip to follow the footprints of our Low Dutch ancestors back to New Amsterdam. Keep checking my web page - www.CarolynBLeonard.com for updates, and we have a new website by Pam Ellingson: http://www.dutchcousins.info/ Hope you can be there for all of it. Hugs from your Okie Dutch cousin Carolyn www.CarolynBLeonard.com Isn't it time you read my books? You know you want to. Wow! The problem may be that she sold the rights for the NNC to the society. Then it would be up to them to do it. Hi Dorothy, I am thrilled to have them available on NEHGS. Anyone who says they have no other reason to join obviously doesn't know about all the benefits of NEHGS and its fabulous library and website. NNC is just one more of their excellent data bases. My local Family History Center has on-line access to the NEHGS. You might check with your local center, I imagine it is system wide. Marleen Van Horne
Dorothy, I did not realize that in order to access the on line New Netherlands Connection, you have to join the NEHGS at 79.00 etc. This will eliminate many people who simply only wish to read them, but have no other reason to join. What can be done about this? I don't recall that it was always this way. Dutch Colonies readers might be interested in knowing that, if I understand correctly, all the NNC articles are being digitized and made available online for members of the New England Genealogical Society. I don't know when they will be available, or it they are being put up a few at a time. Do I have this right, Dorothy? FYI for DuBois descendants, the June newsletter of the DuBois Family Association may be of interest. It includes what looks like the first of a series of articles on the ancestry of Chretien DuBois, whom DBFA and French researchers now pegs as the son of Antoine DuBois. The DBFA's Dec. newsletter gave a bit of background. Also mentioned is new information on the Crispell and Blanchan families. I'm not involved with the DBFA or the research, but I found it an interesting read and thought other DuBois descendants might, too, given the longstanding debate over Chretien's lineage. Jeremy, Thanks for the reply - you're welcome for my input. The gravestone inscription seems to support the placement of your Casper J. as the son of Jacob & Maria baptized in 1794 - maybe as close to proof as can be found. It would seem somebody linked up the wrong guy in Glenville. Although there were a few men named Jasper, my guess is that is a modern misinterpretation of Chasper, which is simply a misspelling of Casper. Middle names were rare for local folks born at that time and the J. is almost certainly a patronymic. Considering the number of like-named men in the area, it was important to distinguish between them in order to avoid problems like confusing accounts at the general store etc. Unfortunately the competing Caspers found in the baptism records were sons of Joachim and John, so it doesn't help much. The stone is broken in half and laying on the ground, and the lower half is in much worse shape, but in person (not in the photo) I could just barely make out "Maria Halsey" on the stone. I cannot locate my "source" of the birth and death dates right offhand. I do know that Maria Bratt Hallenbeck is buried where I said-with the inscription of her being the wife of Jasper/Casper Hallenbeck. Jasper and Maria Bratt Hallenbeck were the parents of: George Nicholas Peter William J. (who was a farmer of Glenville, NY and on whose plot Maria is buried) Gerrit, farmer of Glenville, NY Jacob J., married Margaret Van Duesen-died in Glenville, NY Livingston, died in infancy No female children known to have been born of this couple. **This information is from "Ancestors and Descendants of James Hollenbeck (1801-1901), John Cooper (1799-1865), and S. Nels Anderson (1839-1903)" by Twyla J. Stone-May 31, 1989. She has erronously said that Caspar was born about 1775. Census information bears out the family ties stated above as does some information from a family Bible of Jacob Hallenbeck - Margaret Van Deusen. Having to pull out my Hallenbeck file to try to "help" makes me see I need a lot of work on my lines as well as the connections are shaky....so help is welcomed. :-)) ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Harder" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, May 24, 2011 12:02 PM Subject: Re: [DUTCH-COLONIES] Maria Pare(e) and Jacob Hallenbeck > Barbara, > > The so-called Casper Jasper who married Maria Bradt is connected on some > trees > as the son of Jacob & Maria Paree baptized in Coxsackie in 1794 that we're > talking about. Barbara, The so-called Casper Jasper who married Maria Bradt is connected on some trees as the son of Jacob & Maria Paree baptized in Coxsackie in 1794 that we're talking about. I don't know what proof there is that the connection is correct. If the birth date in late 1793 comes from a gravestone or family record, it would seem to prove that Jeremy's man is a different fellow. Do you know the source of that birthdate, which is not recorded in the baptism record I have? Also there is her son, Jacob J. Hallenbeck (11 Dec 1815-6 Aug 1858) and his wife, Margaret Van Duesen (13 Jan 1821-19 Dec 1898). This Hallenbeck line hailed from the Berne, Albany Co., area, but had moved to the Glenville area and farmed there. As has been said, Jasper/Caspar and Jacob are all common names in the Hallenbeck family line. Good luck!
