    3. As an indication of the changes in Rootsweb, The DC message archives have about 60 messages from 2018 and 2019 in total. For example most months in 2014 had 40. I wonder about the integrity of the database, they all seem to stop at 2 pages of messages per month. It seems most groups never restarted after the meltdown, but all the inactive group archives that I checked were accessible Hopefully all the archives are intact and will remain accessible. 3. Rootsweb message boards have already been merged with Ancestry's boards. I'm not sure when than happened - because I was listed a manager for some Boards and now I'm not since I only was on Rootsweb boards and the competing Ancestry ones I never saw until after links to my old boards disappeared. No loss on my part because they were a hassle to administer. 3. OK I will give it a try as I have been a member since the "DAY" back in 1617 ----- Original Message ----- From: Michael Morrissey <mikemorr@hotmail.com> To: dutch-colonies@rootsweb.com Sent: Fri, 10 Jan 2020 12:21:18 -0500 (EST) Subject: [Dutch-Colonies] Re: Finding the group usinf the Google Groups search Everyone, This is probably not definitive, but here is what I observed about joining Google Groups. You can join Google Groups with or without a Google Account and with or without a Gmail Address. Here are the options: If you don't have a google account and want to join the group without a google account: 1) You have to email Marlene or the old Dutch-Colonies list and ask to be invited using your current email account, probably stating you don't have a google account, but would still want to join. 2) Marlene will enter your email address and send you an Invite. You will receive an email that you can respond to by clicking a button in the email to join the group. 3) If you join without a google account, you will be able to receive the emails from the group, respond to emails by the group and send new emails to the group. However, you will not be able to view the group online or post online. If you want to choose this option, please wait until February 1 to send an invite request as they take more work. Marlene would like to get as many as possible signed up using the method she outlined first, before beginning to use this "Invite" method. If you don't have a google account, you can create a google account without having a gmail address. You can use whatever email account you want. In the Create Account screen it will default to having you create a gmail account, but you can click on the "Use my current email address" instead and enter whatever email address you want. That way you can join the group using the links or instructions given in earlier emails. You will have to log into your google account and then you can join in the way Marlene first outlined. If you have a google account with a gmail address, but want to use a different email address for the group, you will first have to be logged into your Google Account. Then, when you join the group there is a popup screen in the process that will default to your gmail address, but you can change it to any email address you want. Hope this helps. 3. I have just been advised you need to be logged into Google for this to work.  Sorry. GO TO: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!overview At the top of the page next to the GOOGLE logo is a search box. Enter DUTCH-COLONIES.  That should get you to the group.  It worked for me. The group is set to be visible to all. We are now up to 4  members. 3. I used the address below, and it took me right there, but told me my application for membership was pending.  I had first gone to the address someone else posted and had applied using that address.  I assume this means Marlene will be approving me (I have always been a member of Dutch-Colonies) and I will be able to get in again.  Too bad some of our old scholars are no longer with us!!  They are greatly missed for their research, insight, general knowledge and willingness to always help out those of us who needed help. 3. Everyone, This is probably not definitive, but here is what I observed about joining Google Groups.
