If you are wondering why he disappeared for several decades, its because he ran off with his wife's (Mary Elizabeth Hall) first cousin (Mary Lucretia Slusser)and moved to Missouri with her to work in hotels along the railroad. To confuse everyone more, he apparently changed his name to David Crockett (David was his middle name) and had two children with Lucretia. The moved along the railroad until eventually settling in Osage Kansas, where he worked as a shoemaker until Lucretia's death there. He then moved back to Pulaski county Virginia, and remarried his first wife Mary Elizabeth (who had married at least two other times since he left). He lived with her until he died. Amazing story, but the puzzle pieces fit together if you dig a little! I am a decendant of "David" and Lucretia's son, David Amos Crockett. Our family never knew of his Durman past unti! l a couple of weeks ago! What a shock it has been! Hope this helps all of you!
