I have been researching Durman in England - my wife's ancestors. I can go back as as far as the birth of Francis Durman abt 1711 in Beer Crocombe, Somerset, England. I have records of some 200 Durman names, all in various towns in Somerset, England. Insofar as I know, none of these people emigrated to the US. One other point is that I found the name spelled Dorman in church parish baptismal records in several cases. I would be happy to exchange information on Durman in England. Ernie Snelling **************END OF ORIGINAL MESSAGE TEXT************** Hello Ernie. Well, I would LOVE to be able to connect my DURMAN line back to England (or anywhere, for that matter), but have been able to get back to about 1790 or so. If any of you DURMAN researchers out there ever run across a DURMAN (or DORMAN) who immigrated to America prior to about 1800, please let me know. There are many possibilities, but our ancestor could have arrived in Maryland, Pennsylvania, or Virginia. It is even remotely possible that the immigrant came to Canada, and THEN came on to America. We've found the surname spelled several ways for the same person in the same county courthouse in Virginia. Sometimes, we even find DURMAN and DORMAN in the same record for the same person. So we won't rule out DORMAN as an ancestor either. All of you keep in touch, (P.S. I also manage the DORMAN and DEARMAN Mailing Lists.) SgtGeorge George W.
