My grandfather was Charles Durkin, born Aug. 21 1879 in Ballincurry. His parents were James Durkin born about 1846 and Catherine Durkin born about 1863. He also had a sister Mary born about 1878. James and Catherine were married in Feb. 1875 in Curry. James Durkin's father was Charles Durkin, who died before 1875. Catherine's father was John Durkin, but I don't have any other information about him. Let me know if any of this sounds familiar. The 1901 census shows about 14 Durcan/Durkin families in Ballincurry, so it is probably a longshot that we have a connections. -Mike Durkin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Here's what I know. My great-great grandfather MAY have been named Luke (unreliable information from a now deceased aunt). The name of my great-grandfather was Philip Durkan. He married a Catherine Durkan (and I think that actually may have been her maiden name, as well as her married name) in Kilmacteige, County Sligo, in February 1849. Their children included my grandfather, Michael, and his siblings, Atty, Bridget, Winifred, and Luke. Atty remained in Ireland. Bridget and Luke came to Massachusetts but had no descendants. Winifred had descendants, but I do not know them. I don't think they live in Massachusetts. There are many family stories about Durkins marrying Durkins--which seems to have been easy to do in Sligo! In fact, I have some notes about a James Durkin, who immigrated to Brwester, NY, a Martin Durkin, an Anthony Durkin, a Jack Durkin, and an Edward Durkin. These must have been Michael's cousins. I don't know anything about them--just their names. I didn't have a chance to ask my aunt for clarification. I can also confirm that Durkins were marrying other Durkins in that part of Sligo. That was the case for my dad's parents, and all 4 of his grandparents. I'm afraid that most of the names you list don't ring a bell. I do have a couple of people named James, but none that I know of that immigrated to Brewster. Most of the Durkins that I know of who immigrated went to Buffalo. There are some other relatives in Chicago, and of course around NYC where I currently live. -Mike Durkin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My granfather was born in Dowra, County Cavan,Ireland and his sister's name was Ann, and she married a Durkin. And on the baptismal records that I was recently reviewing with my cousin, Chris Creamer, we found a Bridget Durkin listed as one of the godparents for Chris'father, Robert Creamer. I also remember hearing the Durkin name when I was growning up. We do have more information on other Creamer siblings, their parents, and ship manifest records for my grandfather, Peter, his brother Hugh, and sister Mary. Another brother lived in San Franciso, and we just recently found some info. on him. I'm hoping there is a connection, because we have been working on several things without much progress. This would really be great to be able to connect my grandfather with his only sister. Let me know what you think. Judy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My 2nd great grandparents were John DURKIN from Westport, Co. Mayo and Mary WALDRON from Ballyhaunis, Mayo. I've never found a marriage record for them, but they lived in New York, NY. John DURKIN was in the Irish Brigade, "the Fighting 69th," during the Civil War. Mary WALDRON died in December 1857 after giving birth to twin girls. One of the twins died, and the one who lived was my great-grandmother, Anna DURKIN, who married Patrick MOONEY.
