Cindy, do you know anything about John's parents and siblings? My great-great-grandfather was Michael Thomas Durkin, married to Bridgit Bird, and lived in Scranton. They had 8 children: John (who married a woman named Anna), Margaret, Joe, Frank, Walter, Mazie, Alice, and Edward (my great-grandfather, born in 1887). Somehow, Edward (and I think some of the others) ended up in Brooklyn. -- Nora

Hi, Mickey, Do you have any idea where Sean Durkin was born, or any clues about where his brothers and sisters live? This would help tremendously in narrowing your search. It might also help to tell the list what searches you've already tried, which could help people to assist you better. Nancy, Did you try the ISTG site? http://www.rootsweb.com Then look under Special Projects. Then check out Durkin and Durkan and Durcan spellings. Use "Find" <on this page> with Dur (only) to locate all the Dur??ns on the manifest. Also, in Feb 1867 a James Durkan was witness to my GGP's wedding in Kilbeagh, which is in the Swinford area. Also, I have a great uncle named Daughtery/Dougherty who married a Bridget Durkan and went to CA around 1890-1910 and Bridget was never heard from again. Would like to find that family, as we have found all the other sibling's families who had offspring. If you look on the web, you will find that there is a performer by the name of Sean Durkin who appears to be approximately the correct age. You did not mention which country that Sean lived in, but it probably would be worth a gaze at this Sean's website to see if there is any family resemblance (photos were there when I visited). Cautionary note: He takes awhile to answer his e-mail.....and he can be rather "flip"..so don't take it personally. I'm a retired private investigator. Hi Nancy Records are scarce if any before 1865 in Sligo. I have just been told that there were Tithe Applotment Books of Ireland for 1823-1838 for Landholders in Sligo ( the trouble with this is that most Roman Catholic's were not allowed to own land and were rent payers on the Barony land. Their was also a Flax Growers List of 1796 for those farmers who grew a percentage of Flax on their land. These records should be available at the History Center in Sligo Town Ireland as there may be other records available their also to help you. If you can do some research on your family's arrival in the USA their are Ships records of passengers for each year in the Archives in Washington DC. This is not to hard to find since you know the basic year it may take a day of going through the microfilms. I have done this before and the workers there will help you get started. If you have your family's birth ages and names please send them to me when you get the chance and I will keep them on file and if anything turns up with their names I will let you know. Hi Here is a partial listing of Durcan/Durkan/Durkin/ names in Achonry Parish in the South Sligo census of 1901. Spellings as shown If any family members are missing from census they are more than likely away working, in the army or already emigrated. I finished 4 of 5 reels of the 1901 Achonry Census from the LDS the 5th reel is on backorder so if you don't see your Durcan etc. I will post when it comes in. Also Researching Marren,Feely,Brennan,Walsh,Carroll,McCoy and Gannon in South Sligo.
