My ancestors, brothers Simpson and James Tolan, emigrated from Ireland to the port of New York in 1860. I am told their father's name was also Simpson. I don't know much earlier than that, but I will hold onto your name and email in case I ever am able to make the connection.

I did notice that there were several Winifred Durkins in the Scranton area at that time period, which makes me think at some point there is a connection. I have just started working on Patrick so don't have info. I will keep this in mind and look for links.

Mary had 2 brothers, Anthony & Thomas and 2 sisters. To date I have only discovered the name of one, Nora. Nora Durkin married a man with the surname of Dempsey and they emigrated to Scranton, PA. Mary's eldest, Bridget named one of her daughters', Catherine Winifred! Let me know if anything looks familiar.

Winifred,s maiden name was DURKIN and I found their marriage certificate in Ireland showing they married April 1847 in Bonniconlin, County Mayo although Michael was from Kiltimagh, Co Mayo, about 40 miles south. Next door to them lived a James DURKIN family. James shows as 50 years old whil Winifred shows at 53 (I believe her to be older). James wife Julia is 55 and their son James is 50. I am Winifred and James were brother and sister but I find no proof. I believe they lived in the Ballina area of the townland Ardnaree. If any of this ties in with your information, please contact me. CM Reilly
