Sorry. My Durkins (formerly Durcan, it seems) came from Sligo. I wish you a lot of luck in your search. believe Martin Durkin came from Sligo in 1834 and Michael and cousin James came in the 1840's. I have not been able to find out where they were from in Sligo and have not found the ships they came on Martin Durkin was the grandfather of my grandmother who lived with us when I was growing up. I heard a lot about the family and London Ontario. I have that Martin was born in 1817 (1816) the son of Michael Durkin and Bernadette Giver Michael was born in 1833 Martin and Johanna Sexton were married at St Paul's in Toronto in Nov 20 1848 and that Michael and Sarah Sexton were Married at ST Peters November 11, 1861 in London. I understand that Michael came with his cousin James. James' parents were Edward and Honora brother and sister to Michael and Bernadette in Sligo I have one piece of information that Michael Durkin was on the Flax growers of 1796 in the Parish of Islandedy on Co Mayo I have found that part of Sligo then was changed into Mayo. From what I see of sure names, the Durkins may be from somewhere near the boarder of sligo and Mayo. I also have other lists from mayo and sligo but have no idea if the Michael is the same family. I find nothing so far on wives Bernadette or Honora (Giver) Not sure this spelling is correct. I was wondering if any land records, wills, church records, cemetery would have where they were from in Sligo and where they landed In US or Canada Kathy

His brother, Thomas Joseph Durkin (born 1885 in Niagara) married Berniece Josephine McMillan (born 1902 in Derby, New York) on June 23, 1921 in Welland. I found this information in Ontario, Canada Marriages, 1857-1922. After being both widowed, William and Berniece later married and had a son Robert ( I have a pic of William and Robert dated 1943 and Robert appears to be approx. 3 to 5 years of age). The extent of my info is that one of my Durkins married a McGowan, probably in Pennsylvania, perhaps Illinois, just before 1900. I don't have any other information about his origins at all. Sorry not to be able to help.

Patrick married Mary Carbine/Carrabine and had my gg grandfather who then went to Ireland late 1800's and is found in Home of Michael Quinn ca 1881 and about 1884 comes to US with his bride Mary Anne Doyle, settling in Fall River MASS. Mary Anne is sister of Margaret Doyle Quinn. All the Doyles seem to come to Fall River. Patrick is the only known McGowan in Fall River. No siblings ID'd and marriage of his parents not at Carrowmore-moy. However, it appears that they died there. Evidence shows that a William Durcan served as his Godfather with Catherine Carabine. thanks, Libby
