    1. [DURKIN] Durkin marriage near Leeds, Yorkshire
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jlf1958 Surnames: Durkin, Coyne, Davey, Oxley, Bentley Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.durkin/577/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm trying to find a marriage record for an Ann Durkin. I know she was married to Sam Bentley in 1873 in Holbeck (nr Leeds) Yorkshire. She is listed on the certificate as 'widow' with a surname of Oxley. I've tried everything to find her marriage to an Oxley without success. As she's listed on the 1871 census as Durkin with her father and siblings, I wonder if anyone recognises the family. Her father was John Durkin, mother was Anne Coyne. I've found a marriage to Samuel Davey in 1865 and then an Ann Davey married to a John Oxley in 1871 and feel this is the right person, but as she's listed on the 1871 census as single and 'Durkin' I'm now confused! Author: jdurkin116 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.durkin/51.154/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Believe it or not I too have heard that there was a mayor in Scranton named Durkin. As it turns out my great-great grandfather was a Michael who married a Bridget (Meaney). They settled in Paterson NJ. They had five children (1850's) of whom I can only track one which leads to our family. I will have to check, but I'm certain that while looking for work (boiler maker) that there was a trip To Scranton involved with one of the Durkin's who while there gave birth to a child before returning to Paterson. So there is some connection to the Durkin's in Scranton with our family as well. John Durkin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
