Hi, I am Jim "Pops" Jackson co-admin with Diane Sowden. I am wondering whether the original purpose of this list has been accomplished or if it needs re-constituting, or if there is still interest in doing so. If there is, I will take steps to migrate us to groups.io where we will have an excellent location and possibility of creating new life in the group. I am hoping to hear from you as to your level of interest, either in starting anew or if there is another purpose to which we could attach ourselves for Durham. I hope to hear from all of you. Best wishes, Jim
This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team We are presently setting up email groups at https://groups.io/. If there is interest in migrating this list to groups.io please respond to this message to that effect ASAP. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di
Hello All, I had forgotten I was a member, but since Brian Pears passed away on another local group there has been an obvious decline in messages I feel. Rootsweb had issues on some groups and this I feel sure added to the decline. I am still researching my:- SCOTT, Robert family pre-1913 Born 1883 and died 1916 (WW1 casualty) Any info re place of birth for his father possibly BOLDRON, Startforth would confirm that he and his brother John Joseph were actually from BOLDRON. Their mother is a mystery as she was possibly from STANHOPE, Co Durham. Thankyou for any help you can offer. John Scott Ferryhill, Co. Durham. Sent from my iPhone
We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes, Jim and Di
Hi list, I am your new admin person. My name is Diane and I live in the UK. Please could we see some action on this list do you think? Thanks very much. Diane Sent from my iPad
Dear High Excellency, With most respect and honour, for your kind attention please: I have completed my FA (Intermediate Arts / HSC) from the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Peshawar, NWFP, Pakistan. I would like to study there, in a University or College of your great country, for post secondary education but I have no money power or back-end support to achieve my goals. I have applied for scholarship, bursary and fund to millions of charitable trusts, funding organizations, universities, colleges, private companies and individuals worldwide or presented a genuine offer of free working for but just this message has been received by all "Sorry we can't help you at the moment". This time I'm writing to you and this email still includes a genuine offer of free working for, who will help me in getting education. Regards Hadi Address: Muhallah Halim Zai, P.O Shabqadar Fort, Tehsil Shabqadar & District Charsadda, NWFP, Pakistan. My genuine offer is that "I'll work for, without salary and facilities but employer will sponsor my education." Your help can change my life. I can't but GOD will reward you for the action.
Fellow genealogists, Have you ever used the Internet to learn about genealogy methods and resources? Taken a genealogy course online? Read some 'how to' articles? Then I would like to hear from you. I am an Australian Ph.D. student who is currently writing a book chapter for an academic Virtual Learning Environment publication - my chapter is about using the Internet for genealogical education. I would therefore love to hear from you, fellow genealogists, about any Internet-based content you've used for genealogy education. This includes online courses (free or fee), how-to's, articles/columns, newsgroups, BBS, chat, mailing lists, forums, or even personal web pages that publish learning material - anything online that helps you in learning the craft of genealogy. Your comments on the following is of utmost interest: What are your favourite learning outlets on the Internet? How often do you use them? Can or did you find what you needed online? What are your learning successes? What could be better? What do you look for in genealogical learning on the Internet? If you would like to participate, your comments are extremely welcome. Please send your comments to me directly at research@veale.com.au before Saturday 1st May 2004. I thank you in advance for your participation in this academic research. Kylie Veale P.S. Names and email addresses will be protected and are therefore not included in the publication. Copies of the paper will be made available to interested participants on request, after the book has been published. ----------------------------------------------- Kylie J. Hi, **This message is being sent to the DURHAM-1891 mailing list.** The email address that RootsWeb has for the DURHAM-1891 list admin kimmy.laptop@ntlworld.com is bouncing, so RootsWeb is looking to make contact with the list admin. Will the list admin please contact Andrew Billinghurst (billingh@rootsweb.com) so that we know that you are still maintaining this list and please reply quoting this message. List members there is nothing for you to worry about and nothing for you to do, it is probably just an email problem for the person looking after the day-to-day management of this list. Rest assured that this does not mean that your list is in danger. Thanks! Hello I am new to this list but trying to trace my maternal grandparents I believe that my grandmother was born in Durham in 1858 and her maiden name was ANN ELIZABETH DAWSON. She married an ALFRED HURDLEY in 1884. He was born in WOLVERHAMPTON and they were married in DROITWICH. I have noticed that there were several DAWSONs and HURDLEYs in the Durham area and wondered if anyone is doing this family and could help me as to if there were any brothers or sisters. I would be very grateful for any leads on this subject. Thank you Ann
