    3. Hello, As I recall it, Ancestry used to use FreeBDM for their Birth marriage and death information and as such it was not complete, as all the records had not ben transcribed. However now that they use digital photographs of the GRO Indexes, the Ancestry files are a complete records for the years 1837 to 1983. Can someone please confirm this. Thanks Ralph

    3. Hi Ralph & List Yes & no Ancestry offer the FreeBMD index as it is and also as a way of accessing an image of the GRO index page that carries the family name you are interested in. Ancestry also have a search facility based on the first and last name of each page on the index / quarter - the name you want may or may not be on each index page that the search result lists - you then have to check each page image.
