    3. HI Dave, I found an entry that might interest you, Burial Register index for Old Cemetery Hartlepool shows- 1890 3rd. Dec. George Gowland buried aged 11days. 1910 12th Jan. George Barker Gowland buried aged 6days. As the family were in Stranton/West Hartlepool by 1881 it could be that there are more burials for the family in Stranton Grange cemetery but I don't have an index for that one. The Cleveland FHS sells an index to this cemetery I believe, consult their website, a google search for the title Cleveland FHS will bring up the URL > In the 1871 census for Throston workhouse Ref. RG10 piece4914 folio48 > page30 is shown Hannah Gowland born Seaton Carew aged 29 married noted as an Inmae. I also found on the same Piece but on folio 47 page 28, Catherine Gowland born C. 1868 aged 3 bn. Darlington and Thomas W. Gowland aged 9months bn. Hartlepool. I did not find the elder Thomas Gowland in this workhouse and as Hannah is shown married he must have been around somewhere. I found in the 1861 census ref. RG9 piece3679 folio55 page51 Thomas Gowland aged21, born C1840 at Darlington living Darlington St. John's parish. occ. House Carpenter, with parents Ann aged 61 father Thomas aged 57 (hard to see age but I think this is it the index on Ancestry shows him 37 but that is definitely wrong) Thomas senior is a Tailor born in Co. Durham but I can't make out the birth place, neither can I make out the birth lace of mother Ann but see the 1851 details below for these place names. The 1851 ref. HO107 piece 2382 folio217 page51 shows Thomas Gowland aged 47 Ann aged 51 Thomas Gowland(junr.) 11 living St. John's parish Darlington. Thomas senior was born Brompton Durham occ. Tailor, Ann born Dinsdale Durham, son Thomas born Darlington a scholar I can't fing this same family in the 1841 in Co. Durham. Free BMd shows a marriage for a Thomas Gowland where a Hannah Collinson appears on the same page Ref. Marriages March Qtr. 1864 district Darlington volume 10a page42. But don't rush off and order a copy of this marriage certificate, becuse the best way to find out what a mother's maiden name was, is to order a copy of the birth certificate of one of her children. FreeBMD shows. Births March Qtr. 1881 George Barker Gowland District Hartlepool volume 10a page144. Order the copy and see what it gives for Hannah's maiden name. Hope this all gives you something to go on. Regards Jenny DeAngelis. Spain. > I'm hoping someone out there can help me with some info on the Gowland > family.
