    3. I have a copy of a cardboard-framed portrait of a young woman born in 1877 Newcastle. She married in 1907 Gosforth and I suspect the photo was taken before that time ... she's wearing a dark jacket, a huge lacy bow (cravat style), and a trilby style hat with a feather and cockade! At the bottom of the cardboard it reads: Edwd. G. Brewis, Artist Photographer, Victoria Art Studios, 8 & 10 New Bridge St., Newcastle on Tyne. I have located him on the 1901 census (as a 37 year old photographer) at Wish Bank Lodge, Broomley (rural district Hexham). I wonder if anyone has a directory (or knowledge) which will confirm approximately when this gentleman was conducting business in Newcastle? Thanks and regards, Lesley Constance Bay, Ontario

    3. Hello Lesley, I have a photo by the same photographer and studio which I can date fairly closely to 1895-1898. I suspect it was the earlier date when he enlisted at age 18, but certainly before 1899 when he went off to the Boer War. I hope this helps.
