    1. [DUR-NBL] Grundy family gateshead
    2. Hi Ive just found out a bit about my Ann Grundy my gggg grandmother, born circa 1793 Gateshead Fell and am looking to see if anyone is else is researching the name. All I knew of her was that she married Jacob Soulsby 29 JUL 1810 Gateshead. jacob was a miner and they moved around the East Durham coalfield. Now Ive been told the following Jacob Soulsby born 1785 was indicted for assault (Quarter Sessions records) in 1811. He pled not guilty and his father in law Robert Grundy (a yeoman) put up part of his bond (bail). Jacob later pled guilty and was fined 6d. Better than a marriage record:) So Im now thinking Ann is the one on IGI 08 JUL 1792 Gateshead, Durham, England, with a sister Hannah christened a couple of years later. Any Grundys out there? Carol

    2. Hi Carol. My mums sister was born at Lowery's Lane, Low Fell near Gateshead Fell on the 15 Dec 1908 and she was Christened Florence Grundy MORTON the daughter of James MORTON and wife Hannah JACKSON, I have never been able to make a connection with a GRUNDY family but middle names usually are a good indication of relatives. The MORTON'S came from Shield Row - Stanley - County Durham (chapelry of Tanfield) and go back as far as the 1720s when the records cease to exist, James and Hannah moved to Lamesley before going to Low Fell then to Windsor Avenue - Gateshead, my mum was born at Shield Row. Cheers. 3. Hi wilf, A few of my smith family lived in Lowerys lane about the same time as your mum's sister was born. I think they lived at number 11 but cant be sure. When we looked for it, it is gone, in fact most of Lowerys Lane is no more. I wonder if your lot and mine knew each other.. Cheers, Pennie

    3. Carol, I also have a gggg grandmother Isabella Grundy, born about 1780 in Chester-le Street. She married Christopher Watson a Shovel Handle maker in 1800 he was from near by Urpeth. They had 5 children 4 born in Shotley Bridge, one being named Grundy Watson. No Grundys for me past 1800 then.
