Although a number of possible definitions of "Lungie' have surfaced (see below), since I first posted my query in 2002, it is the logical/common sense application of the term that I am seeking. Here in the U.S., as far as I have been able to tell, the term is not known. I was hoping that someone in the U.K. had some historical point of reference, perhaps literary or anthropological, to help me put the nickname back in the proper context and thereby direct my search efforts for ancestors.
