MURPHY/CRANE (also McSloy, Reed, Carey) Gateshead/Newcastle I am researching the ancestors (and their descendants) of my grand father Vincent Joseph MURPHY born in Gateshead in 1908. His parents were John Murphy, born Ireland c 1875 and he was a railway clerk. He lived with his uncle James Murphy and his wife Eliza in Lower Cuthbert Street, Gateshead before marrying HONORA CRANE in 1900. John and Honora had several children including John James, Nora Mary, and Mildred Catherine. I would love to hear from anybody researching MURPHY’s who could be connected to either generation of this family. I am also looking for people who might are researching the CRANE family. Martin Crane was born in Ireland around 1800-1810 and married Honora (surname unknown) They had several children in Ireland (Martin, Ann, Peter, Patrick) and moved to Winlaton, Gateshead in the 1850’s. I believe the Crane family originated in Tuam, Co. Galway. PETER CRANE married Ann Winifred Maloyd (or Malloy) at the Pilgrim Street Catholic chapel, Newcastle in 1867. Peter and Ann Winifred’s children were Edward, Honora, Catherine, Ann and Winifred. I believe Honora was the only child to have children but any information on this family or any other descendants of the earlier Crane generations would be great. Interested in ANY information!
